Please find below the contact details for all the Managers should you need to get in touch.
Welcome to the first edition of the SRFC Mini & Youth newsletter, which we hope will provide a useful
source of information and news articles across all the age groups within our club.
I hope everyone had a good summer break and are looking forward to the season ahead which will again see
our players and coaches face some interesting challenges as the game develops further.
Also a very big welcome to all our new players and parents. We are very proud of our Mini & Youth section
which has gone from strength to strength and enjoyed some great success over the last few seasons.
We continually encourage children to come along and try the game. Rugby needs children from all walks of
life, in all shapes and sizes. Rugby doesn’t discriminate, we need everyone.

Hey, everyone, I’ve been in touch with the fundraising Co-ordinator at Southend Hospital to
find out whether Neptune Ward were in need of anything. I’ve spoken to a really lovely lady
who told me they are looking for DVDs for the kids to watch from their beds. So I figured I
have a load of DVDs just laying around unwatched and I’m sure a lot of you will have too. I’m
happy to start a collection and take them to the hospital. Feel free to send me a message if
you want to be involved. A small donation to help a child in need and brighten their day.
I’m sure if there is a good response we could arrange a collection box somewhere in the club.

KEEP A LOOK OUT FOR THE TRIBUTE NIGHT ON
SATURDAY FEBRUARY 4TH. DETAILS TO FOLLOW
SOON. SHOULD BE A FUN NIGHT.
On Saturday 19th November the First
XV are playing Dorking at home, and
the under 10s, 11s, 12s will be
playing some exhibition games prior
to kick off. It’s a great reason for
more people to come and watch the
first team, and also see the
development of our young players.
Just a polite reminder to park with consideration when you use the car park on both
training and match days. We do not have nearly enough space for all our cars.
Please see below an email I have received from Tina Benn (under 17's).
If any of you have any boots that you wish to donate, please see drop in bin by the shop.
Thanks in advance for all your support.
“During this summer the Under 16’s toured South Africa, it was a great tour and left some lifelong and
wonderful memories.
A couple of good things we resolved to do when out there, was to raise and donate money for the LIV Orphanage in Durban – which we have started already. And also help the rugby players in the township in Cape Town - Kyalitsha. More than a million people live there. It’s over 2 miles long, and in the middle of it is a rugby pitch. Western Province Rugby – The Stormers - are trying to help the children in the townships, and they run club rugby there. The township children are coached and fed after school to help their development and rugby skills. It was through the Western Province scheme that we played our township rugby game. When we turned up to play here, we were the first foreign white team to ever play in the township, and were greeted by cheering and waving children, it was quite moving and lovely to see. One thing none of us were expecting to see, was the fact that most of them were playing barefoot!! I dreaded the thought of us playing these barefoot children with our rugby boots on! We watched as some of the boys started to wrap newspaper around their feet, and was horrified to think that’s all they had to play in. Shortly after a lot of them had taped up their feet with paper, another group of township players that had just finished playing elsewhere trotted over and gave their rugby boots to the next team to play – the boys with the paper wrapped feet had done so to make sure the boots fitted them, they share one set of rugby boots between 5 teams, we are hoping to change that, and let all the township rugby players there have some boots of their own. Our boys were tremendous after the game and all of them gave their boots away to the township players, but they need so many more! We have seen the kindness and generosity that SRFC Club, parents and boys possess. As the new season approaches, a lot of you will be buying new boots for your sons we hope that when you buy new, you bring your old rugby boots and kit to the club. We will have a collection point, and when collected will send them on to Kyalitsha with the help of Stormers Sponsor DHL, and will make a lot of girls and boys in Cape Town townships happy with some rugby footwear, and no more newspaper.. Many thanks
