This year, the Interprofession des Vins du Sud Ouest (IVSO) has renewed its successful exclusive partnership in the UK with The Wine Gang to help UK professionals and consumers discover and experience the rich and unique range of wines from the region. The Wine Gang is five of the UK’s most
respected wine journalists, and ambassadors of South West France Wines.
In March this year The Wine Gang spent two days tasting more than 200 wines to select their favourite South West France wines. The Gang selected 91 wines from across the range of denominations from the region, which represent the wines that they feel best demonstrate the quality and diversity of this wine-
rich region. We hope you enjoy them too!
The Wine Gang has been delighted to work with South West France wines over the past two years. Our working relationship has given us a terrific opportunity to explore some of the lesser-known appellations, and to witness first-hand the changes and improvements in the South West wine scene. Most importantly, it has been a pleasure to communicate our excitement about the indigenous grapes and diversity of wine styles to our readers and to the British wine trade through our publications and events. The Wine Gang feels the South West is one of France’s most exciting wine regions. Its wines have huge potential to satisfy modern British wine drinkers as wines of personality and great quality, based on tradition but with flavours and styles to suit contemporary tastes.

Welcome to the Maison des Vins du Sud-Ouest. This area is dedicated completely to the enjoyment and discovery of wonderful wines
from the South West of France. The South West region has many different varieties and styles of wines to offer, so we thought it was appropriate to bring them all together at Comptoir Gascon, itself a proponent of South West France’s warmth and welcome!
Every week, you will be able to sample different wines from the South West France, for free, when having lunch at Comptoir Gascon. This will give you the
opportunity to taste the many gems South West France has to offer. So do not hesitate to come back to enjoy, experience and learn about wines from both well-known and more undiscovered winemakers from across South West France!
EXPERIENCE SOUTH WEST FRANCE WINES AT THE MAISON DES VINS DU SUD-OUEST
The wines which are on display at the Maison des Vins du Sud-Ouest have been carefully selected by The Wine Gang.

GETTING TO GRIPS WITHSOUTH WEST FRANCE WINES
To help you navigate this brochure and through South West France wines, we thought it might be useful to fill you in on a few terms.
PDO stands for Protected Designation of Origin (AOP in French- Appellation d’Origine Protégée, formerly AOC). To receive the PDO status, a wine (or other product) needs to be entirely manufac-tured (throughout the entire process) in the specific designated region.
PGI stands for Protected Geographical Indication (IGP in French – Indication Géographique Protégée, formerly Vins de Pays). To receive the PGI status, a wine (or other product) needs to be traditionally and at least partially manufactured in the specific region.
Denomination / Appellation These terms are used to describe the geographical area which has achieved the PDO or PGI status. There are many in the South West France region that you will get a chance to expe-rience at The Maison des Vins with The South West France Wines Selection by The Wine Gang.
Grape Varieties The South West France region is the home of international as well as traditional and indi-genous grape varieties. The main grape varieties in the South West France are: Reds : Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Duras, Fer, Malbec, Merlot, Négrette, TannatWhites : Arrufiac, Baroque, Courbu, Gros and Petit Manseng , Len de l’El, Mauzac, Sauvignon Blanc, Sémillon

CuvéeThe New Black Wine

Tasting NotesCedary, classic nose of concentrated black fruit and a touch of lifted floral character coming through. A touch of game, but beautifully integrated into the whole picture. Crunch of blackcurrant fruit on the palate, the tannins are big and meaty, but such a lovely structure in a wine that is classic yet modern, with concentration, spice from quality oak and a very long finish.

Alcohol14%
Grapes85% Malbec 15% Merlot
Tasting NotesBig, polished wood and meaty nose, but really nice, dark fruit and a hint of expressive Malbec lift. The palate has a huge impact again, liquorice-edged tannins and depth of creamy fruit, big but fine grained tannins and retains its freshness through the meaty, savoury depth.
