Social Media Revolutions

How to communicate in the web 2.0 world

Hello Liverpool

from Newcastle

Hello Liverpool

From NewcastleGateshead

What’s a social network?

Anyone like knitting?

Soap, disillusionment and bare knuckle fighting

Let’s build one

• An interest• A link• A grouping• Shared knowledge/experience

StringFace

Not about technology

Key behaviours:• Openness• Sharing• Friendship• Human• Interesting

Not the hard sell

Who wants to watch a video?

Who wants to watch a video that works well on YouTube?

Don’t forget the medium

• No harm in first video being on YouTube• Second one works better because of what

YouTube is

Who wants to watch a video that takes advantage of what YouTube can do?

How about the risks?

• People might leave negative comments• People might use your content in a different

way• People will not stay ‘on message’

Sorry!

People will do it anyway

Why not get in there first?

Responses

• Don’t bother• Report/ban• Answer• Respond for the benefit of others

Don’t forget whose house you’re in

Liberté, égalité, fraternité

Did I forget something?

Ah yes...

Listen

(but not in a creepy way)

In summary

• Who’s your audience?• Where are they?• What do you want to share?• Why would they want you to share that?

And...

What are you going to say when the boss asks you why you’ve spent all day

on Facebook?

Or what’s in it for ‘the company’

Thanks
