SLAVERY BY COURTNEY MUELLER

What is slavery?Exact slavery definition: the state or

condition of being a slave; a civil relationship whereby one person has absolute power over another and controls his life, liberty, and fortune.

Slavery Slavery was what some people thought

was evil. Non-slaves would get arrested or killed if they helped out or tried to free slaves. If slaves tried to run away they would be hunted down and they would be either returned back to their owners or they would get killed.

Slave auctions explanationWhat is a slave auction? Well a slave auction is pretty much what it

sounds like. It is and auction where a slave gets

bought or where slaves get traded. Slave auctions

were the main reason of splitting up a slavefamily. Many slaves would try to run away

withtheir families so they wouldn’t be split

apart.

Slave auctionsSlave auctions is a big part in the story A Day of

Tears. There is two different kinds of slaveauctions. One is called “grab and go” is where aslave buyer would give the slave trader a certainamount of money and he would get a ticket inreturn for the slave. The other kind of slaveauctions is called “may the biggest bidder win”which is where a slave buyer bids the highestamount of money possible and whoever managesto bid the highest gets the slave.

How all this was involved Pierce Butler owned slaves on his

plantation. There was a slave auction at the butler

plantation where tons of slaves were sold to all over the world. They were sold to get money to pay off his dept from gabling too much and losing.

Under ground railroadWhat is the under ground railroad?.The underground railroad was neither “underground” or a “railroad”. It got its name because it depended on secret “railroad” codes to let passengers know they were in danger. The underground railroad was a set of routes that started in the South, went through the North, and ended in Canada.
