Where?

•During the time of slavery

• Owners lived in large plantation homes

•Usually nearly 10 slaves lived together in one shack

•Runaways were cruelly treated

•Families were separated when people were sold

•Hard way of life

Modern Potteries-All sorts of people including men and women

-People make whatever they want

-Usually reserved as a ‘fun’ place

-Very hot place

-Very hard work

-For some people it is a job

-Pots used for decoration, storage, and art

Slave Potteries-Usually slaves with permanent injuries

-Mainly men

-Slaves were made to work there

-Very hot place

-Very hard work

-Some were taught to read and write

-Used to store goods and crops

We do not have many images of slaves creating pottery, if any. Based on the pictures we saw before, and this one here, do you think

the conditions were good or bad? Why?
