SKYSCRAPER CITIES

Do you know what is a skyscraper???

A very tall building with many storeys.

Tall structures whose height is much larger and are qualitatively different in construction from smaller ones.

The steel frame, the elevator, the telephone, and the revolving door are all key to their invention They appeared first at time of 19th century

History of skyscraper

The increase of the high of buildings was a big step for the construction industry and come together with the technological development.

water pressure was usually insufficient to supply running water above 50 m.

Which place is called as the World’s oldest man-made skyscraper ?????

The Great Pyramid of Giza was the tallest man-made structure in the world for nearly 4,000 years...

First skyscraper

The first skyscraper was the ten-storey Home Insurance Building in Chicago, built in

1884–1985.

In this building, a steel frame supported the entire weight

of the walls, instead of load-bearing walls carrying the

weight of the building, which was the usual method.

Green Skyscraper

A skyscraper having features of green building is known as Green Skyscraper .

What is Green Skyscraper ?

Benefits and impacts have been studied in terms of energy savings and indoor environmental qualities. For example green roof can reduce 50% of cooling load; green wall can reduce 10 degree centigrade indoor temperature, where as biofilter and indoor plants purifies indoor air by 50% to 60%.

Biofilter in Green Skyscrapers

Biofiltration is a pollution control technique using living material to capture and biologically degrade process pollutants

Materials used to built skyscrapers

At first, air was injected into molten steel to reduce the impurities, and increase the temperature of the steel

Later, carbon and manganese were added to improved the strength, and eliminate the effects of other impurities, mainly sulfur

High volume, cheap, strong steel was the result

Raw Materials

Reinforced concrete is one important component of skyscrapers.

Concrete is inherently strong under compressive forces.

This high-strength material was achieved by adding very fine particles to the usual concrete ingredient

Upcoming skyscrapers

Before considering the technical hurdles of constructing tall buildings from wood, perhaps the which should be as the specific benefits wood can offer over concrete and steel?

Architectural companies are beginning to wake up to the promise of wooden tall buildings, and Swedish firm Berg C.F. Møller is just one recent example of this. The company has proposed a 34-story wooden skyscraper for HSB Stockholm's architectural competition.
