Qualtrics

• We have several KB articles created for sign-in, upgrade codes, and collaboration.– KB04697 – Sign-in– KB04699 – Upgrade Codes– KB04706 – Collaboration

• Department contacts have been set up for many of the academic units. We also have setup contacts for non-Academic units as well.– Contact dangler.8@osu.edu to set up a

departmental administrator (or more than one)

3

4

Secunia Presentation

• Secunia license expires in Nov. 2015

• Original purchase paid for by Engineering, OCIO Security, and OSUMC

• We will begin exploring renewal in future meetings

5

Identity Finder CIC Contract

• The Committee on Institutional Cooperation (CIC) has entered into a contract with Identity Finder for DLP.– Contract guarantees pricing for perpetual

licenses and maintenance going forward– These slides are informational only: they do

not represent a departure from the Symantec DLP product provided by Enterprise Security

– If you wish to use Identity Finder, please work with Enterprise Security directly.

6

ExamSoft

• Arts and Sciences and ODEE are working on a license

• ExamSoft is an exam authoring tool to create and distribute tests online, with feedback to faculty regarding data and insights into how tests are working

• If you have interest, please contact Mike Kaylor in ASC: Kaylor.1@osu.edu

7

Adobe CC Home Use

• OSU Purchasing is working on this agreement a bit more– Questions remain in Adobe and in OSU about

the scope of usage– We have found ways to distribute the software

• OSU Purchasing will be working on Single Sign-On so we can avoid going through a third party vendor.

8

MS Office 365

• OSU Purchasing and OCIO are working together on this

• Timeline:– Student O356 is now scheduled for July 2015– Faculty/Staff O365 will be a separate project

begun after that.• There are technical and tenant issues that need to

be resolved before Fac/Staff O365 can be rolled out.

9

Microsoft Renewal

• Our agreement comes up on 6/30, when we will enter year 3 of our 5 year agreement.

• Microsoft’s landscape continues to change:– O365 released to students “at no charge” in Oct

2013

– O365 released to fac/staff “at no charge in Dec. 2014

– Windows 10 to be a free consumer upgrade

10

Microsoft Renewal

• Last year, we held Microsoft to Year 1 pricing with the release of the Student Option.

• This year, we have four options to review for additional value and cost-savings– E3 or E4 uplifts to O365– MDOP– Azure– Price Freeze, at Year 1 or Year 2 pricing

11

Microsoft Renewal: E3/E4

• Currently, OSU has E2 options on O365

• E3 would provide upgrades like:– Legal Hold, Business Calendar, Online Meetings,

Discovery, Enterprise Yammer, etc.

• E4 would provide Plus CALs– Essentially, PBX integration

• Because OSU hosts Exchange on-site, there are few benefits for us– The IUC might see many more benefits, though.

12

Microsoft Renewal: MDOP

• MDOP (Microsoft Desktop Optimization Pack) includes several products:– Virtualization Products:

• Application Virtualization (App-V)• User Experience Virtualization (UE-V)• Enterprise Desktop Virtualization (MED-V)

– Management Products• Advanced Group Policy Mangement (AGPM)• BitLocker Administration and Monitoring (MBAM)

– Restore Products• Diagnostics and Recovery Tool (DaRT)

13

Microsoft Renewal: MDOP

• App-V, MBAM, and DaRT are the big interests we’ve heard on campus– App-V would allow you to virtualize

applications without VMWare products– MBAM allows for management of BitLocker

on a level that would likely reduce a lot of headaches and help us move beyond tactical on this encryption technology

– DaRT is great for help desks and can even fix machines that can’t boot properly

14

Microsoft Renewal: MDOP

• MDOP has a lot of value to OSU– 15,000 devices have been reported by

interested colleges already– On an FTE basis, it is not expensive and

might be an easy win

• MDOP does not have easily recognizable value to the end-user, however

• Other IUC schools are not as interested as we are

15

Microsoft Renewal: Azure

• Azure is Microsoft’s cloud computing solution– Microsoft is asking for a small commit from

each school to open up the product for deeply discounted use

– In combination with a price freeze, this may be a direction to go.

• Schools are mostly not prepared to make full use of Azure at this time (or any other cloud solution.

16

Microsoft Renewal: Price Freeze

• If we can freeze pricing at Year 1 or Year 2, there are some savings:– Freeze at Year 1: $125k savings– Freeze at Year 2: $82k savings

• This appears to be a fallback point if the IUC can’t agree on a product to go after

• Savings don’t add value to the license, and cost changes on a per FTE basis are small (about $1/FTE)

17

Upcoming Renewals

• PowerTerm Pro• Parallels

– We have more activations than OCIO was paid for, working with Parallels on what this means

• xWin32

• If you are a cost share, we’ll be contacting you.

18
