Since Roman times, vines havebeen grown and wine has beenproduced in the Region ofMurcia. It benefits from excellentweather conditions, soil andhuman resources for grape-growing and producing qualitywines.

The variety of different soils andclimate conditions allows theproduction of an extensive rangeof red, rosé and white wines forall tastes and palates. ThreePDO wine areas stand out:Bullas, Jumilla and Yecla.

The grape type which is mostlyused to produce wine isMonastrell, a red variety withsmall, compact bunches, whichis perfectly adapted to theenvironmental conditions in thisarea.

Monastrell wines are deeplycoloured and full-bodied andcome in a very extensive, highquality range. Other varietieswhich are selected to producewine are Teinturier Grenache,Cencibel, Cabernet-Sauvignon,Grenache, Merlot, Syrah andPetit Verdot for red and rosé; inaddition, Macabeo, Airen, PedroXimenez, Malvasia, Chardonnay,Sauvignon Blanc and Muscatvarieties.

In Bullas, wine is the ultimateexpression of a town devoted to tendingvines since its very origins, bothdefining it and filling it with pride. Atraditional craft that has matured overtime, lovingly nurtured by its people inthe hope of a rich reward: full-bodiedwines abounding in character that lingernot only on the palate but also in thememory.

A stroll along its streets full of historyor a chat with the local people willreveal how the town has been linkedto the delicious fruit of the vine sincethe remotest of times.

If the district of Bullas is known forsomething, it is for its wine-growingtradition.

Granted in 1994, the Bullas ProtectedDenomination of Origin takes in thedistricts of Bullas, Mula, Ricote,Cehegín, Lorca, Pliego, Caravaca,Moratalla and Calasparra.

Eleven wineries have been registeredin the Regulatory Board, whicheveryday works hard for these PDOwines to be well situated and renownedas they deserve at both national andinternational markets. With this aim, they attend the industry’s mostimportant events and fairs with thedifferent wines, and communicate partof their wine culture and tradition to thepublic.

Savouring wines from the YeclaProtected Denomination of Origin winearea is a real experience, an adventurethat will take you back to the origins ofa land whose roots are deeplyembedded in its wine-growing tradition. Its wines are pronounced and at thesame time creative in character, revealing noble, complex and richnuances in the glass.

Set in the middle of the highlands, between the coastal mountain rangesand the La Mancha plateau, Yeclapaints its visitors a picture of exceptionalbeauty, where arid stone landscapescontrast with fields of olive trees, cereals and vineyards.

The different grape varieties show thepersonality of the land where they weregrown, and offer flavours and tasteswhich hide the secrets of wine artists.

The Yecla PDO Regulatory Board testsboth the grapes and the winesproduced endorsing their quality inorder to ensure that every bottle offersa genuine f lavour experience.

This demanding mission involves themonitoring of vineyards and wineriesby the qualified control board team, which also periodically analyses thewines in order to guarantee theirauthenticity, distinguished by the sealon the back label.
