The renovation of this established mid-western shopping mall is reminiscent

of a high-end hotel lobby. The renovation goals included selecting finishes,

furnishings, and amenities to complement the existing marbled floors and

architectural features. Intimate seating groups are located throughout both mall

levels making shopping a social event. Bold, custom, axminster carpet patterns

provide a backdrop for elegant, upholstered, lounge seating and accessories

throughout the mall areas. The grand center court becomes the grand living

room for gathering and entertainment. Fine art, accessories and luxurious

finishes help to give it an upscale feel.

This interpretation of a lodge utilizes heavy timbers, stacked stone texture and

earth tones as welcoming accents in this Pacific northwest shopping center.

The warm and friendly atmosphere has become a community center for the

local shoppers and Canadian visitors. A striking grand stone fireplace anchors

the food court and features a media wall and living green wall expressions.

The combination of banquette seating and high and low top tables, chairs,

and natural wood stools, organize the expansive food court into a variety

of comfortable seating zones radiating from the fire place. Custom modular

benches and soft seating areas punctuate the mall concourse areas. Ceiling

beams in the typical mall were modified to add volume and to improve sight

lines to major retail tenants.

This boutique hotel and conference center at Wake Forest University included

the renovation of The Mews, a 1920’s stable and poultry house surrounding

an open courtyard on the Graylyn estate. The stone, French normandy-style

buildings provided our team a wealth of inspiration for the 36 guestrooms,

presidential suite, vice presidential suite, and junior suites, concierge lounge,

restaurant, fitness center and other areas. SPS reimagined the Mews as an

elegant but informal guest house adjacent to the grand dame manor house.

By integrating the farm buildings, poultry house, and gardens as a consistent,

wrapped space, they created a self-sufficient property with concierge, gift

shop, hospitality and dining room, adjacent to the conference center spaces.

The new space planning allowed for development of more luxurious and

spacious suites, a fitness center, and achieved an “entrance” to the hotel. All

guest rooms were updated with luxurious bedding and academic level working

spaces, yet eclectic furniture plans and nostalgic artwork and 3D accessories

made each room feel like home.

The food court posed a complex challenge of maximizing seating capacity

while improving circulation. We created a restaurant-like environment by adding

built-in banquette seating to organize the flow and communal tables to anchor

the spaces. A mixture of table heights and styles, and a refined architectural

ceiling treatment add to the feel. The neutral palate combines stone and wood

textures as accents. Due to the location of the food court within the mall itself, we

oriented the overall pattern diagonally to visually open and create a dramatic space

with modern lines. The flooring works to create movement in the space. With

updated signage at tenants and special features including lighted columns and

the addition of lounge seating, the result is a warm, fresh restaurant setting.

improve circulation and maximize seating capacity. We created a

restaurant-like environment by adding built-in banquette seating

several wood textures as accents with new light-colored tile floors.

Honoring this iconic regional suburban shopping center, we transformed the

interior into a dynamic, modern space that captures the essence of an outdoor

lifestyle center. Using architectural elements and materials reminiscent of an

urban streetscape, the customer will feel like they are part of an interactive

shopping environment. Inspired by different gardens and park settings, broad

strokes of tile patterns using materials that are modern interpretations of

cobblestone and concrete set the backdrop for expanses of greenery, seating

groups and sleek light posts. The mall concourses are cleverly differentiated

yet the mall has a cohesive overall bright color palate and consistent level of

detail. The food court serves as a transitional space to the Luxury Wing with

its refined elegance and grandeur. The Macy’s and dillard’s wings have their

own unique character. Polished marble inspired floors and large scale custom

light fixtures create the backdrop for lounge areas that feature custom wool

rugs and furniture with classic lines. Seating and high tech lounges are located

throughout all areas of the mall to encourage interaction and activate the

shopping experience.

This “one-of-a-kind” Sonesta Hilton Head Resort is a modern coastal

interpretation of the South Carolina Lowcountry and Hilton Head Island,

combining the casualness of the local architecture and textures of the

landscape with streamlined architectural details. The five-story concrete

building was a full renovation of the Public Space Areas and Model Room,

340 Guestrooms, Guest Baths, Guest Corridors, four Hospitality Suites, five

Suites, Public Restrooms, renovation of the Ballroom, 20,000 square feet of

Meeting Rooms and the Prefunction areas. The overall spacial envelope is

neutral and includes fresh color tones of white, sand, sea grass, warm grays

of Spanish moss, shell tones and inspiring pops of coral. Words that help

describe the feel of the spaces are: casual elegant charm, natural, weathered

coastal landscaping of low shrubs, marsh grasses, palm trees, shells, elements

such as birds, and sea grass. The inspiration was to take common things

from the surroundings and give them a contemporary edge and to use them in

unexpected ways. For instance, the lamps are made of driftwood and much

of the porcelain tile is inspired by the wood planks of the board walk. Sonesta

Hilton Head guests will enjoy friendly southern hospitality, breathe in fresh sea

air, see lots of beautiful sunsets and relax. This is a place to have a reunion, a

wedding, a conference, a family vacation; a place to eat fresh seafood and local

vegetables. This is not just a hotel anymore, it is a true resort that people will

want to return to again and again, where the relaxed elegance that the guests

desire pairs so beautifully with the inspiration from the location.

As part of a successful entertainment complex with a view of the Bay of Miami,

the food court renovation captures a Latin flair with bright colors as well as bold

patterns and shapes. Glass tile accents in lime green, turquoise and orange

gold are introduced on the columns and walls. We took a very unique approach

to seating to encourage gathering by introducing lounge-style modular sofas,

settees and banquettes in bright colors with very modern communal-style

tables in a café setting. Tenants are encouraged to express unique storefront

designs within a dramatic framework and sign concept.

By enhancing the finishes, furnishings and amenities of this existing expansive

architectural space and to expand the seating capacity to 700 seats, our team

created a more intimate and inviting restaurant type environment by introducing

special seating zones. new spacial planning improved and activated the

circulation through the center axis of this large room. Custom banquettes

were designed to organize the spaces, a combination of high top communal

tables, counters with charging stations and areas of low top tables and chairs

in several sizes were introduced to create a variety of places to dine and work.

This seating approach spills out to the adjacent outdoor area with the addition

of café tables, communal tables, planters and bright colored umbrellas to

activate this sunny seating area. We eliminated the existing water feature to

introduce an interactive tech lounge area with large scale terrazzo pattern focal

area flanked by custom banquettes and counters. At the entry, large scale

custom pendant lights hang from the ceiling to accentuate the terrazzo floor

pattern and create a grand entry statement. A new and improved children’s

area is introduced between the existing carousel and escalators. This area

has children’s scale seating and play areas which encourage families to enjoy

the entertainment aspects and stay longer in the mall. Our overall goal was to

make this food court a community gathering spot... A place for every kind of

customer to feel inspired and at home.

Since the art scene is so strong in Philadelphia, we wanted to create a boutique

hotel in the heart of downtown in which the hotel itself is a piece of art. This

hotel boasts a custom-designed “jewel box” sculptural ceiling feature and an

art gallery with rotating original pieces of art. The urban, bold graphics with

high contrast make this sleek, modern, hotel a memorable experience. Also,

the signature guest room combines extreme functionality and modern details

with traditional materials and references. The room is as appealing to the

business traveler as it is to wedding guests. The unique integration and display

of local artwork make this property an interactive art showcase. This project is

fashion forward, high contrast and full of exciting details that are enhanced by

lighting: dramatic, bold, memorable, interactive and sleek.
