Ways to Repair to a Rusty-colored Water:

Just replace the anode rode with a new magnesium rod. You can purchase it from a plumbing supply store.

The smell of rotten eggs?

The bacteria in your water tank can bring an unwanted smell. This is due to the sediments that bring off hydrogen gas that gets mixed into the sacrificial anode.

Possible ways to remedy the issue:

1. Flush the water heater by adding 2 pints or 3% of a concentrated peroxide solution to 40 gallons of water. You can also use this solution into the water lines.

2. Let the solution sit in your tank and pipes for 2 hours. This solution is not toxic so there is no need to rinse it.

3. If the problem persists, replace the anode with zinc.
