Concrete Problems

Defects in Concrete Substrate Physical Attack Chemical Attack

• Capillary Pores (.01 m to 1 m) are essentially the residue of the originally water filled spaces and these effect the permeability of the concrete matrix.

Chemical Attack Reinforcing Corrosion Atmospheric Carbonation Alkali Aggregate Reaction Acid & Sulphate Attack

Xypex is the Solution!

Unique chemical treatment for the waterproofing, protection and repair of concrete

Seals concrete defects from the penetration of water and other liquids from any direction even when subjected to hydrostatic pressure

Protects concrete from a variety of harsh environments

Provides resistance to attack from aggressive chemicals

Enhances the durability of concrete

• Illustration from a sheared face of concrete prior to the Xypex reaction

• Visible are cubic and rhombic particles, the by-products of cement hydration

Xypex Crystallization Process

• Xypex reacts with moisture and the natural chemical by-products of cement hydration (calcium hydroxide, mineral salts, mineral oxides and unhydrated and partially hydrated cement particles)

• The Xypex chemicals utilizes water as the medium to migrate throughout the concrete

• A non-soluble crystalline formation develops deep within the pores and capillary tracts

• Xypex becomes an integral part of the concrete mass

• The pores and capillaries become discontinuous, micro-cracks are sealed

• The concrete becomes impermeable to water and liquids from any direction

• Xypex Concentrate and Modified coatings are applied on existing structures and new concrete construction

Fany Sha Dam, Taiwan

Alyeska Water Treatment Plant, Alaska

• Xypex Patch’n Plug and Concentrate Dry-Pac are used to repair defects in the concrete (cracks, honeycombing, tie-holes, etc.)

Hydro-technical Complex, Russia Mexico City Subway Line, Mexico

Xypex Testing• Xypex products, including the Xypex Admix

have been tested successfully in formal independent scientific laboratories throughout the world

• Xypex Products have been evaluated and tested to accepted standards for such performance characteristics as:

– permeability

– chemical resistance

– freeze-thaw durability

– crack sealing

– compressive strength

– potable water
