TRANSCRIPT
Siemens has developed an upgrade for the Rustronic MKII Control System based on the globally available Siemens S7-300TM controls processor family.
It is designed specifically as an upgrade replacement to existing SGT-100 and SGT-200 gas turbine control systems and will provide a high level of functional flexibility, with improved reliability and availability, which will also enable access to a range of other benefits.
The use of the new systems will also allow wide-spread local support coverage through Siemens Regional Support Centres.
Technology
Siemens S7-300TM control processor and touch screen HMI (Allen Bradley controls can be offered on request)
Replacement control cabinet/s offer standard configuration of pre-engineered modules
Replicates the original control system, including interfaces for safety interlocks to other customer equipment
Provides for control of gas turbine operation on existing fuels
Cabinet and display screen text will be in English, other language options available, at additional cost

HMI display provides operational status of the turbine with user-friendly mimics & messages
Abnormal conditions displayed as time tagged alarm or trip message
Provides the operator with a first line diagnostic tool to reduce any unscheduled down time
Functions
The Microcontroller includes the following turbine control and monitoring functions:
Turbine start, stop and shutdown sequencing and protection
Instrument fault monitoring
Message annunciation
Turbine speed control and protection
Turbine temperature monitoring and protection
Turbine lubrication oil control and monitoring
Off-package gas fuel, block and vent valve control (if installed)
Fuel system control and monitoring
Ignition control
Vibration monitoring interface
Fire & Gas monitoring interface

Benefits
Improved reliability: results in fewer spurious trips
Improved availability: due to enhanced diagnostics, easier repair, dependable spares supply and support network
Improved Operator interface: provides comprehensive information on the major systems and reduces operational errors
Enhanced fault response: Improved response to abnormal situations through the use of “Calm Controls” methodology delivering increased uptime of the turbine package
Enhanced diagnostics: Clear and comprehensive on-screen status displays
Improved accuracy & stability: allows maximum use of the operational envelope
Enhanced communications: through use of widely accepted networking protocols
Distributed I/O compatible: reduces on site wiring
Display
A touch screen is used to provide an easy to use operator interface. Screens are provided to display information in various formats, including pictorial and tabular.
Status pages showing live information can be selected for critical turbine and driven unit parameters.
Options
Although the design is standardised, a range of pre-engineered options allow for considerable flexibility in meeting the specific needs of individual customers.
Various options are available to further enhance the package including:
Fuel system upgrade
Block and vent valve replacements
Vibration monitoring systems
Instrumentation upgrades
Enhanced HMI packages
Connections to external communications systems via electronic data network
Fire & Gas systems
NOx reduction & power enhancements
Associated modernization and upgrades:
STAR Fuel System Upgrade
Gas or Dual Fuel DLE System Upgrade
Gas Fuel Block and Vent Valve
Liquid Fuel Block and Thermal Relief Valve
STA-RMS: Remote Monitoring System
Improved Air Inlet Filtration: HEPA Filters
Core/Package uprates
ISCAP (In Service Capability) Modifications
Halon replacement F&G system

Distributed Control System Data Link
The control system can be supplied with a communications data link for connection to a station control panel or Distributed Control System (DCS). A number of communication protocols can be provided.
Turbine Temperature Monitoring
The visual display shows a mimic with separate thermocouple values, an average of PT Exit temperatures and a deviation bar graph. The system provides some redundancy as two adjacent thermocouples must fail before a trip is initiated; failure of a single thermocouple is indicated as a warning and displayed on the gas path mimic.
The system provides alarm and shutdown monitoring on maximum combustion cycle temperature, deviation limit and PT Exit temperature.
