ONE DAY GUJCOST SPONSORED WORKSHOP ON

“RECENT TRENDS IN CONCRETE TECHNOLOGY AND SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT”,

24th June - 2019

OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME:

Sustainable development is the key area of interest in today’s era, in almost each sector of

science and technology. Same is the key area of research in the field of Civil Engineering

since one decade and hence, it becomes important for the fraternity to get aware about

recent trends in concrete technology towards sustainable development. Therefore, the

objectives of this workshop is abridged as:

To get in-depth knowledge of recent trends in Advanced Concrete Technology.

To get exposure of how to utilize and get benefited from various materials to achieve

sustainable concrete.

To get knowledge about long-term strength and durability of concrete.

Aware about current field practices and governing norms in concrete construction.

EXPERT SPEAKERS:

1. Dr. C. D. Modhera, Professor, Applied Mechanics Department, SVNIT, Surat.

2. Mr. Channdran Patel, Manager - Technical Services, Ambuja Cement, Surat.

3. Prof. Hiren Rathod, Assistant Professor, Civil Engineering Department, SNPIT&RC,

Umrakh.

INAUGURATION CEREMONY:

On 24th June 2019, the registration was done from 9:30 am onwards. Total 77 Participants

had participated from 05 different Institutes of South Gujarat. After high tea the

Inauguration Ceremony started at 10:30 am. Prof. Hiren Rathod, organizing committee

member, welcomed all the participants and introduced about the workshop. Followed by,

Lamp-lightening ceremony, by Dr. Piyush S. Jain, Principal, SNPIT & RC; Dr. C. D. Modhera,

Chief Guest and Key Note Speaker, Professor, SVNIT; Prof. Keyur P. Shah, Workshop

Coordinator and Head of Civil Engineering Department; and Prof. Neetu B. Yadav, Workshop

Coordinator, Civil Engineering Department. Later first session of the workshop was

commenced by Key Note Speaker Dr. C. D. Modhera.

OUTCOME OF AN EVENT:

1. Dr. C. D. Modhera, thoroughly explained the basics of concrete technology and

discussed various updates in IS revised guidelines of 2019 which is yet to be

published. He gave intensive insights of special and different types to concrete to be

work upon in the direction of sustainability.

2. Mr. Channdran Patel had discussed about basic fundamentals of the cement as a

versatile construction material and its chemical reactions. Later he explained the

actual field practises, challenges faced with concrete handling on the site with help

of video/visual case studies.

3. Prof. Hiren Rathod divided his session in two parts. In the first part, discussion was

focused on guidelines for carrying out an academic research project in detail along

with targets to be achieved in each semester of final year. In second part, a brief

introduction with some example of application of Nano-technology in construction

industry was discussed. All three sessions were interactive and all the speakers

answered the queries of the participants in best possible manner.
