Was against prayer in public schools and was against the state to require it to be recited in public schools

“Almighty God, we acknowledge our dependence upon Thee, and we beg Thy blessings upon us, our parents, our teachers and our country. Amen.”

What did it violate?

Plaintiffs argued it violated the Establishment clause in the 1st amendment

The 14th amendment made this applicable to the states

Court Ruling

Justice Hugo Black ruled it was unconstitutional to prayer in public schools because it violated the Establishment clause and was considered unconstitutional

Vote was 6-1
