THE CONTRACTOR MAY CHOOSE TO SUBMIT AN ALTERNATIVE METHOD TO ACHIEVE WATER CONTROL AND PROTECTION REQUIREMENTS FOR REVIEW BY THE SVRCD. IF THE SVRCD DETERMINES METHOD PROPOSED BY THE CONTRACTOR DOES NOT ADEQUATELY MEET THE PERMIT REQUIREMENTS OR ARE UNACCEPTABLE FOR ANY REASON, THE CONTRACTOR WILL BE REQUIRED TO USE ONE OF THE APPROVED METHODS PROPOSED BY THE SVRCD. CONTRACTOR DEVELOPED WATER CONTROL PLANS MUST BE APPROVED BY THE OWNER'S REPRESENTATIVE PRIOR TO CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIES COMMENCING FOR THIS PROJECT. 5. WATER CONTROL NOTES: 1. CONTRACTOR SHALL SUBMIT A WATER CONTROL PLAN TO SHASTA RCD FOR CONTRACTOR SHALL SUBMIT A WATER CONTROL PLAN TO SHASTA RCD FOR APPROVAL 10 DAYS PRIOR TO CONSTRUCTION. THE WATER CONTROL PLAN SHALL BYPASS STREAM FLOWS AROUND THE WORK AREA, PROTECT AQUATIC ORGANISMS AT INLETS AND OUTLETS, DEWATER THE WORK AREA, AND DISSIPATE EROSIVE FORCES AT THE OUTLETS, AND NOT INCREASE TURBIDITY LEVELS MORE THAN 20 PERCENT ABOVE UPSTREAM LEVELS. CONTRACTOR SHALL MAINTAIN ALL ELEMENTS OF THE OPERATION IN ORDER TO DEWATER WORK AREA, FACILITATE CONSTRUCTION, PREVENT HARM TO AQUATIC ORGANISMS, AND PREVENT SEDIMENT AND TURBIDITY AND CONCRETE WASH WATER FROM ENTERING THE STREAM. THE WORK CONDITIONS SHALL BE MAINTAINED FREE OF FISH. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL KEEP THE AREA FREE OF STANDING WATER IN THE WORK AREA. SHASTA RIVER FLOWS SHALL BE DIVERTED PAST THE WORK SITE IN A TEMPORARY DIVERSION CHANNEL LOCATED ON THE SOUTH SIDE OF THE MEASURING WEIR. AN ISOLATION BARRIER SHALL BE CONSTRUCTED OF PLASTIC LINED GRAVEL OR APPROVED EQUAL. THE DAM WILL EXTEND ALONG THE PERIMETER OF THE WORK AREA. CONTRACTOR WILL PUMP WATER CONTAMINATED WITH CONCRETE WASTE INTO A CONTAINMENT AREA CONSTRUCTED BY THE CONTRACTOR. PUMPS AND OTHER DEVICES SHALL BE USED TO PREVENT CONTAMINATED WATER FROM ENTERING THE SHASTA RIVER. 2. CONTRACTOR WILL CONSTRUCT A TEMPORARY DIVERSION CHANNEL AROUND THE CONTRACTOR WILL CONSTRUCT A TEMPORARY DIVERSION CHANNEL AROUND THE SOUTH DIVERSION WEIR ABUTMENT. CONTRACTOR WILL PLACE BACKING NO.2 ROCK OR OTHER APPROVED MATERIAL TO PROTECT THE ABUTMENT FROM SCOUR AND UNDERMINING. THE TEMPORARY DIVERSION CHANNEL WILL BE LINED WITH GEOTEXTILE OR OTHER APPROVED MATERIAL TO PREVENT EROSION. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL PLACE EROSION AND SCOUR PROTECTION MEASURES AT THE DIVERSION CHANNEL INLET AND OUTLET. CASCADE ESTIMATES FLOWS DURING THE CONSTRUCTION PERIOD WILL BE LESS THAN 40 CFS. FLOW DEPTHS IN A TRAPEZOIDAL CHANNEL WITH A WIDTH OF 2 FT AND 1:1 SIDE SLOPES IS ANTICIPATED TO BE ABOUT 2.5 FT AND VELOCITIES ARE ANTICIPATED TO BE LESS THAN 5 CFS. 3. CONTRACTOR WILL RESTORE BANK EXCAVATED FOR CONSTRUCTION OF TEMPORARY CONTRACTOR WILL RESTORE BANK EXCAVATED FOR CONSTRUCTION OF TEMPORARY DIVERSION CHANNEL. BANK RESTORATION SHALL INCLUDE CONSTRUCTING A COMPACTED SOIL CORE BY PLACING SOIL IN 8 INCH LIFTS AND COMPACTED USING A VIBRATORY COMPACTOR TO CONSTRUCT A COMPACTED SECTION OF BANK ADJACENT THE WEIR AND A MINIMUM OF 25 FT IN LENGTH ALONG THE CHANNEL. FABRIC USED IN THE TEMPORARY DIVERSION CHANNEL SHALL BE USED TO REINFORCE THE SOIL CONSTRUCTION AS DIRECTED BY THE ENGINEER. THE COMPACTED SOIL CORE SHALL BE SUFFICIENTLY MOIST TO COMPACT, BUT NOT OVER SATURATED. 4. THE GRAVEL ISOLATION BERM SHALL BE CONSTRUCTED USING ROUND GRAVEL THE GRAVEL ISOLATION BERM SHALL BE CONSTRUCTED USING ROUND GRAVEL RANGING IN SIZE FROM 0.5 INCH TO 2.5 INCHES. GRAVEL SHALL BE ENCAPSULATED IN PLASTIC SHEETING TO FORM AN IMPERMEABLE BARRIER. CONTRACTOR SHALL MAKE EFFORTS TO LIMIT SUBSURFACE FLOW FROM ENTERING THE WORK SITE. 5. PUMPS AND STATIONARY EQUIPMENT WITHIN 150 FEET OF THE STREAM SHALL BE PUMPS AND STATIONARY EQUIPMENT WITHIN 150 FEET OF THE STREAM SHALL BE CLEAN AND FREE OF LEAKS AND SHALL BE PLACED IN A CONTAINMENT KIT. LEAKS SHALL BE FIXED IMMEDIATELY. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL REPORT LEAKS TO CASCADE WITH 1 DAY. 6. CONTRACTOR SHALL MAINTAIN A 55 GALLON SPILL KIT ONSITE. CONTRACTOR SHALL MAINTAIN A 55 GALLON SPILL KIT ONSITE. 7. SCREENS ON INTAKES OPERATED IN AREAS WHERE FISH MAY BE PRESENT SHALL SCREENS ON INTAKES OPERATED IN AREAS WHERE FISH MAY BE PRESENT SHALL MEET CDFW FISH SCREEN CRITERIA. 8. A PUMP SHALL BE MAINTAINED RUNNING 24 HOURS A DAY IN THE WORK AREA TO DIVERT WATER CONTAINING SEDIMENT AND CONCRETE WASTE TO A WASTE WATER CONTAINMENT AREA WHERE IT WILL BE FILTERED BEFORE ENTERING BACK INTO THE STREAM. PUMPS SHALL REMAIN IN POSITION ON SITE EVEN IF WATER DISCHARGE DROPS CONSIDERABLY, TO BE PREPARED FOR STORM FLOWS. 9. CONTRACTOR SHALL CONSTRUCT A WASTE WATER CONTAINMENT AREA TO FILTER CONTRACTOR SHALL CONSTRUCT A WASTE WATER CONTAINMENT AREA TO FILTER WASTE WATER. STRAW BALE BARRIERS WILL SERVE AS THE FILTER.
