Over the past academic year, various events were held in Lt. Smt. Shantabai Ladkat English Medium Municipal School, Pune. This is a slideshow of a few such activities.

SCHOOL ACTIVITIESFor the 2010-11 ACADEMIC SESSION

School Chalein Hum!• On the opening

day of school (14th June 2010) students of Shantabai Ladkat took out a rally urging more students to come back to school.

• Book distribution by the corporator

A Talk on Child Abuse

• Students from the school were also given an informative talk on Child Abuse and their rights as children with the help of audio visual aids from the Child Rights Organization: Terres Des Hommes (http://www.childrightsasia.org)

Kindergarten students celebrate Janamashthmi

KRANTI DIVAS CELEBRATION(9th August 2011)

• On the occasion of Kranti Divas, each grade prepared a skit based on an important aspect of the Indian Independence Struggle and presented it to the entire school.

• They also took out a rally in their community playing patriotic songs and chanting patriotic slogans

The BoP-BoP projectDESIGN FOR CHANGE

• As a part of the Design for Change Contest 2011, students of Shantabai Ladkat worked towards making their community free of the plastic bag menace.

• They celebrated a Plastic Free Week from 27th September to 3rd October 2010

• To achieve this students first learned how to make paper bags

• They prepared enough paper bags to give to shopkeepers in the community

• They also conducted a skit and invited the Rotary Club members to speak about the ills of plastic to the community

• At the end of this, students of all the mediums (English, Marathi and Urdu) were shown an informative video on the damage that plastic causes our environment.

DIWALI CELEBRATIONS

ONE NATION READING TOGETHER

• On the occasion of the One Nation Reading Together Event, students of SLEMS, Pune got together for an hour from 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. on 28th November 2010

• Students made attractive bookmarks to use in their books and pledged to read more

• Students of 4th, 5th and 6th grades also presented the “Read Baby Read” song

ANNUAL SPORTS DAY22nd December 2010

• There were various activities conducted during the annual sports day ranging from Spoon-Lemon race, sack race for the junior section to bicycle race and 100 m. race for the higher grade students.

CHRISTMAS DAY CELEBRATION(24th December 2010)

• On 24th December, students of Shantabai Ladkat celebrated Christmas with Santa Claus. Students saw a lot of great videos and a video about different festivals of India.

School Library Drive(Christmas + New Years)

• Our school received a generous donation of around 1000+ books from donors overseas. The Christmas break plus the month of January was spent categorizing and sorting the books to be put in our school library.

• Students volunteer to help with the book sorting

• Volunteers were also invited to help us with the book sorting process

NEW YEARS CELEBRATION(School Opening Day after Christmas Break)

• On the first day of school, students were welcomed with a screening of Madagascar in the newly refurbished Toy Room and the soon-to-be library.

Mind Map Training for Teachers

• A special mind-map training was conducted for the teachers by a guest lecturer on Mind Maps and they made their vision for the upcoming academic year through colourful mind-maps
