Captain Lazar’s Message
Captain David Lazar
Commanding Officer Central Station
Walk to Work Day in San Francisco
Today is walk to work day in San Francisco, sponsoredand promoted by “Walk SF.” I had the opportunity togreet members of the community at the kick off pointthis morning at 655 Clay Street. Supervisor Peskin, hisAide Sunny Angulo and I walked from Chinatown toCity Hall. It was a great walk to promote walking andpedestrian safety.
April is Distracted Driving Awareness Month
In the United States in 2014, thousands were killed or injured in motor vehiclecollisions involving distracted driving. Texting, using a cell phone, eating or drinking, reading, using a GPS while driving can cause a distraction.
The San Francisco Police Department along with our Traffic Safety Partners, such asthe California Highway Patrol, are participating in the National Highway TrafficSafety Administrator’s 2016 National Distracted Driving Enforcement Campaign.
As a reminder, the use of a hand held telephone device while driving is prohibitedby the California Vehicle Code. A single violation for this offense in San Francisco is$162. No text message or Facebook post is worth injuring another person soplease keep this in mind and drive safely!
Back to Work
After being away for 6 days, I am grateful for the work of Lt. Molly Pengel whofilled in as the Acting Captain, and for the work performed by the Central StationOfficers. This afternoon, I am catching up on everything, returning emails and phonecalls, and reading 6 days of police reports.
Mercy High School
Just before Valentine’s Day, students of Ms. Cindy Ouares’ class sent dozens ofValentine’s Day cards to Central Station showing their appreciation for the workOfficers do on a daily basis.
Tomorrow I will visit with the students, thank them for their acknowledgement anddiscuss with them the role of a San Francisco Police Officer.
Have a great weekend!
