SEVENTEEN MILE ROCKS ROAD UPGRADES

The Seventeen Mile Rocks Road upgrades at Oldfield Road and Duporth Road are part of Lord Mayor Campbell Newman’s Road Action Program, which tackles congestion and improves safety on Brisbane’s 21 worst congested roads.

Theupgradesaimtoreducetrafficcongestion,improvesafetyandprovidebetterfacilitiesforcyclistsandpedestrians.

Theintersectionstobeupgradedare:

• SeventeenMileRocksRoadandOldfieldRoad• SeventeenMileRocksRoadandDuporthRoad.

AfinalplanfortheOldfieldRoadupgradeandapreliminaryplanfortheDuporthRoadupgradeareshownoverthepage.

Why upgrade?TrafficonSeventeenMileRocksRoadhasincreasedsignificantlyinrecentyearsandthetwointersectionstobeupgradednoweachcarryupto25,000vehiclesperday.ThisiscausingdelaysformotoriststryingtoexitDuporthRoadandOldfieldRoad.

Severalcollisionshavebeenrecordedatbothintersectionsinrecentyears.AttheOldfieldRoadintersection,allcollisionsinvolvedmotoristsorcycliststurningrightintooroutofOldfieldRoad.Similarly,attheDuporthRoadintersection,allcollisionsrecordedinvolvedmotoristsattemptingtoturnrightintooroutofDuporthRoad.

Theupgradesarerequiredtoenabletheintersectionstosafelycarrytheincreasedvolumeoftrafficandimprovesafetyforallroadusers.

Tree planting and landscapingToprovidesufficientspacetowidentheintersections,severaltreesandplantsofvaryingsizesneedtoberemoved.AnumberoftreeshavealreadybeenremovedfromOldfieldRoadtoallowservicerelocationstotakeplace.

Toreplacethesetrees,wearedevelopingcomprehensivelandscapingplansinconsultationwiththeCentenaryandDistrictEnvironmentalActionGroup.Theplansinvolveplantingmorethan150newtrees.

Construction impactsCouncilwillmakeeveryefforttominimiseinconveniencetolocalresidentsandmotoristsduringconstructionoftheupgrades.Recycledwaterwillbeusedtosuppressdustandworkhourswillbelimitedtobetween7amand5pm,MondaytoSaturdayasmuchaspossible.Localresidentswillbenotifiedinadvanceofanyworktakingplaceoutsidethesehours.

Councilwillalsoprovidefortnightlynotificationsbyemailduringtheworks,tokeepinterestedcommunitymembersinformedaboutconstructionactivities.Ifyouwouldliketoreceivethese,pleaseemailroadactionprogram@brisbane.qld.gov.au.
