President's Message
Summer is over and I hope you had a chance to get away. My family and I enjoyed a great vacation in Cancun, Mexico. No I didn't drive my Packard, but I had a good time anyway.
I got back in time to attend our outing to the California Veteran's Home in Chula Vista. I want to thank Gary Wysong for a wonderful experience. It was fun to show off our cars and talk to some people who had a great stories. One gentleman infonned me that when he returned home from WWII only two cars were available for sale in his hometown, a '37 Buick and a '40 Packard. The Buick belonged to some gangster and was riddled with bullet holes. He naturally chose the Packard and he loved it.
Thanks to Joe Whitaker and his '40 sedan several people were reminded of such cars. Of course Ken Yankee's '40 coupe also took a few people down memory lane as did Gary's' 41 sedan. But the star of the show was our own Les Hill who drove his' 48 limo from Fallbrook with only seven cylinders operating. I had the good fortune of following Les and was a little unsure about the fire emerging from his tailpipe. Les can also tell a good story and laughed stating that his tail gunner was keeping the enemy away.
Overall, we had a very nice afternoon and we even got a great meal from the home for only $3.00. It was a lot of fun. I hope to see more of you at our next outing to the Cabrillo National Monument on September 14.
