Pastor Mike's Message: “A Celebration! (And A Reminder)”
People keep coming up to me
and saying the same thing.
“We haven’t been there. We’re
so sorry. We’ve just been so
busy…”
I get it—in our crazy world family
time is precious, and summer is
often the one good chance to
grab it.
So…I’m not into guilt. I hope that
you can CELEBRATE the fact that (if you had a busy summer) you were able to share time with your
loved ones.
And now, (Yes, here comes the reminder….)
We need you back!
As I type this, Trinity “the building” is abuzz with activity. The first steps of our renovation process are
being completed—new carpet, flooring, and paint in the sanctuary; landscaping and lighting on the out-
side of the building. There is talk of a “church lighting” ceremony (rumors of bubbly?), and it’s all occur-
ring even as we prepare for fall programs and the wonderful madness of a new school year.
But Trinity is NOT the building—it’s YOU, the PEOPLE.
And we need you here. We need your warmth, your fellowship, your willingness to serve the gospel
(and, yes) your financial support!
My hope is that, as a congregation, you recognize that you get an enormous amount of service from
your staff. Across the board, service is first in the minds of the staff, and without fail our staff members
serve far beyond the compensation they receive for their work.
Right now, though they probably won’t admit it to you, life for the staff is a bit overwhelming. We are
“down” two part time pastors, struggling to find volunteers and move forward (because we move for-
ward, not just “keep things afloat!”). Sometimes when we seek help, it seems like everyone is busy or
hard to reach, and we get it. We get it because we are in the same place. But we need your presence
here, and your help to carry out our work in the gospel.
We also recognize that the congregation suffers when there is not enough staff. To that end, council
has begun a call process in hopes of finding a second, full-time, associate pastor! (We ask your prayers
in this process!)
Understand, we are very, very excited to see the changes at Trinity and the arrival of a new program
year. I just want you to understand that YOUR participation is vitally important in all that we do! Some-
times, in a larger church, you might start to feel like this is not the case. But make no mistake. YOU are
Trinity and TRINITY NEEDS YOU!
Peace! I’m looking forward to the weeks ahead—I hope that you are as well!!
In Christ,
Pastor Mike

Ode To Joy!—The Benefits Of Joining The Choir
Did you know there is a growing
body of evidence which claims
that singing as a part of group
can have a range of health ben-
efits, including increased happi-
ness and less mental stress?
It just so happens that Trinity’s
Choir is looking for new mem-
bers. Beginning September
10th, the choir practices Thurs-
day evenings from 7:30 to 8:30
and sings each Sunday during
the 9:45 service.
Can’t make it to each practice?
Can’t commit to every Sunday?
No problem. The choir would
welcome you for the time you
can give.
This year there will also be op-
portunities to join the Praise
Choir for monthly practices and
performances. Families are
welcome to join the Praise
Choir.
Additionally, two cantatas are
planned this year. The Christ-
mas Cantata will be held Sun-
day, December 20th. Practices
will begin in early November.
Watch for sign-ups later this
Fall. The Easter Cantata will be
held again on Palm Sunday.
For more information or to join
the choir, please contact Tara
Beitzel .
Thanks is extended to all the
people who contributed their
musical talents over the sum-
mer for the Traditional service.
From June through August, we
enjoyed uplifting music present-
ed by singers: Tara Beitzel,

Rally Day! Celebrate A New Year of ROC On September 13th
Mark your calendars for Sun-
day, September 13th at 9:45
am in the fellowship hall. We’ll
kick off our Sunday morning
programs, meet all of the
teachers, and work together in
families to do a service project
as part of the ELCA Day of Ser-
vice. Refreshments will be
served.
ROC stands for “Raised on
Christ” and summarizes our
Faith Formation programs at
Trinity. ROC classes meet Sun-
day mornings during the school
year, teach key Bible stories,
and help our kids apply these
lessons to their lives.
Each class will choose their
own offering focus of the year;
remember to send in offering
with your children and youth!
This teaches the important
lesson of loving our neighbors
by giving to those in need.
Classes begin with age 2 and go
through 12th grade. ROC is
held every Sunday from 9:45 to
10:45 am. The child’s class is
categorized by their age or
grade level as of Rally Day,
which this year is September
13.

“Spiritual Truth Seekers” Class Sets Fall Schedule
The Spiritual Truth Seekers (STS)
adult education class begins an-
other season on Sunday, Septem-
ber 13th. This class meets week-
ly at 9:45 a.m. in Room 209.
This year’s discussion schedule is
as follows:
Sept 13– Oct 4: The Intersection
of Church and State
This engaging, information-
packed documentary helps us to
understand the multi-layered and
sometimes contentious argu-
ments that surround the issue,
and reveals the potential for
church and state to work together
for the common good.
Oct 11—25: Satan & Hell: Fact or
Fiction?
How accurate are the popular
images of Satan? How, and why,
did this rather minor biblical char-
acter morph into the very embodi-
ment of evil? We will retrace
Satan’s biblical roots through The
Birth of Satan by TJ Wray & Greg-
ory Mobley, explore a literary
portrayal of Satan through The
Screwtape Letters by C.S. Lewis
and glimpse a picture of hell
through the Inferno, from Dante
Alighieri’s The Divine Comedy.
Nov 1—15: The Big Question: A
Film About Forgiveness
While looking at various social
and current issues, we ask the
questions, ‘What would you do?
Could you forgive? Should you
forgive?’
Nov 22—29: Against All Odds—
Israel Survives
A powerful and uplifting spiritual
journey through Israel’s turbu-
lent history
Dec 6—13: Star of Bethlehem
Presenter Rick Larson walks us
through Biblical, historical and
scientific clues revealing the
incredible significance of this
celestial event as well as the
vastness of God’s creation.
“Coffee Talk” Begins September 20th
This fall, adults at Trinity once
again have the opportunity to
grow in faith and fellowship at
“Coffee Talk”.
This adult education group meets
Sunday mornings during the Sun-
day school hour beginning at 9:45
a.m. in the church library.
Coffee Talk provides a great op-
portunity for members to connect
with other members through cas-
ual fellowship and faith-centered
discussions. This group will begin
the fall session with “Work of the
People” video series discussing
critical issues of our times.
So grab your coffee (or tea), and
join this group in the library as we
grow in faith and community to-
gether!

still needed to ensure we have
enough kits for everyone to
assemble. See the listing be-
low and bring in donations by

Comfort Stitchers Sunday—September 20th
On Sunday, September 20th &
27th, please take a moment to
admire the beautiful handiwork
of the Comfort Stitchers ministry
that will be on display in the
back of the sanctuary.
This ministry creates items that
bring comfort and joy to so many
during the year. Completed
items have been distributed
through Hospice of Lancaster
County, Warm-Up America,
Water Street Mission, Ann B.
Barshinger Cancer Institute
and various community organi-
zations as needed.
This ministry also creates bap-
tism blankets for all of Trinity’s
babies, prayer squares for
missionaries, scarves for col-
lege freshmen and smaller
projects when requested.
“Thank You” Cleaning Volunteers!
Beth Parker and all the staff at
Trinity would like to say a heart-
felt “Thank You” to everyone
who so generously came to our
aid on Friday, August 21st and
helped clean and organize the
sanctuary.
With the help of these wonder-
ful volunteers, the sanctuary
received a good thorough scrub
down and vacuuming to remove
all the dust and dirt that was
created during the recent reno-
vations.
We are truly blessed with a
congregation that responds to
our call for “Help!”
Please know that anytime, and
in anyway, you lend a helping
hand, we are touched by your
service and ever so grateful!
Thank you and God’s Peace!

Phase I Renovations Update
Phase I of Trinity’s renovation
plan is progressing! Over the
course of the last few weeks,
new LED light fixtures have
been installed over the altar
area, while a new tile floor was
installed on the altar floor.
New carpeting and padding
were installed throughout the
sanctuary, sacristies, and AV
booth. Meanwhile in the edu-
cation wing, new flooring was
also installed in the preschool
bathroom (the one with the
little potty), and new carpet
was installed in the 3 year old
class room.
Carpet in the remaining areas
of the education wing are
scheduled to be installed by the
end of August, so everything will
be ready to go for the start of
ROC in September.
Outside some landscaping has
been added and some shrub-
bery has been removed to make
way for the exterior lighting that
is being installed. This lighting
will provide increased security
to our exterior while enhancing
our aesthetics. A “Thank You”
to Main Street Mount Joy for
providing Trinity with a $5,000
grant to help with the cost of
the lighting. Also outside, the
roof and water drainage in the
steeple have been repaired.
Bathroom renovations and
ceiling work in the “old sanctu-
ary” are set to begin this Fall.
Please note: a few necessary
changes have been made to
the original renovation plan per
council approval. The estimat-
ed costs of the changes are
within council’s authority.
“Thank You” to Marc Spiri-
digliozzi for his outstanding job
managing this renovation pro-
ject!!
Lots of exciting changes here at

Study will resume on Wednes-
day, October 7th at 10AM!
Fritz and his wife, Faith, are the
parents of Freda Martine and
have been leading Bible Study
at Trinity for about ten years.
Pastor Foltz’s Wednesday Bible Study to Begin October 7th
The class is lively, a great place
for discussion, and even em-
barks on an occasional “field
trip” as they did last spring, visit-
ing the new Civil War Museum at
Gettysburg Seminary.
The topic for the fall is “How
Scripture Guides Our Lives.”
All are welcome—Pastor Foltz is
a terrific teacher with great
knowledge and life experience.
Bring your favorite Bible (or bor-
row one from church!) Class
typically lasts an hour, though
sometimes discussion goes on
past 11:00. Hope to see you
there! Pastor Foltz’s bible study returns
this Fall
week of the summer. Campfire
worship to follow.

Comfort Stitchers Prepares To Launch 8th Season!
Caring hearts, busy hands, abid-
ing faith and a love for knitting or
crocheting is the foundation for
the Comfort Stitchers Ministry at
Trinity.
The group, founded in January
2007, is an outgrowth of the in-
ternational Prayer Shawl organiza-
tion. It has been adapted to meet
the needs and interests of the
members of Trinity. A typical
gathering of the group finds the
members in fellowship while knit-
ting or crocheting their current
project. The gathering ends with
a special blessing of completed
projects. These projects are dis-
tributed to members of Trinity and
local community organizations.
Current projects include:
• Prayer Shawls
• Prayer Mantles
• Baptismal Baby Blankets
• Scarves for Trinity’s College
Freshmen
• Washcloths
• Prayer Squares
• Warm Up America blanket
squares
Comfort Stitchers meetings are
held on the 1st Monday of
each month, September
through May, in Room 209.
Meeting times will be 9:00
a.m. and 6:00 p.m. Members
are welcome to choose the
time most convenient to their
schedule. Due to the Labor
Day Holiday, the September
meeting will be held Monday,
September 14th.
All skill levels are welcome! If
you do not know how to knit or
crochet, we can teach you. We
even provide the materials to
get you started! If you have any
questions, please contact Jes-
sica Johnston at 928-4008 or
jsjmemj@gmail.com
Knitters or crocheters welcome!

skills to fit individual needs.
Want to learn to solder, wire
wrap, make a necklace or ear-
