Financial Aid/Scholarships:

• File the FAFSA and CSS Profile, if required, after Oct. 1; it can be used for scholarship consideration, in addition to need-based financial aid

• Give your resume to your counselor for school nominated scholarships; the scholarship committee needs information on which to base their decisions

NCAA Eligibility Center for Division I and II athletes

• Discuss your possibilities with your coach

• Stay in contact with the college coaches

• Register with NCAA Eligibility Center and submit your transcript

• Send official test scores online – use code “9999”

• Complete the regular college admissions process—you still have

to be admitted through the admissions office

Add colleges to your list in Naviance Student to see the delivery method and deadlines:

MHS College Application Process

• Deliver Transcript Release Form to Mr. Lucas

• $5.00 per transcript—electronic, CA, and paper (first 3 are free, waivers available for free/reduced lunch); check payable to MHS

• Do not submit payment for self-report schools (Virginia Tech, for example)

Documents will be submitted by our office: transcript, secondary school report, school profile for MHS, FCPS profile, counselor recommendation letter (if requested)

College ApplicationRecommendation Letter Process

• Request in person from your recommenders FIRST.

• Then request electronically.

• College requirements vary:Send only what is requested—counselor letter, teacher letter(s), other letters

MHS College Application Process

• If you need a counselor letter of recommendation…• Student/Parent Questionnaire (due now!)

• Resume or Activity List

• 1 Teacher Comment Form

• Be sure your counselor knows you would like a letter AND when your deadlines are

• Some colleges do not want letters of recommendation (e.g. Virginia Tech)

MHS College Application Process

• Students are also responsible for the following…• Completing college applications and submitting to

colleges along with application fees

• Requesting official test scores online from SAT and/or ACT to be sent directly to colleges

• Researching requirements and deadlines for institutional scholarships

• Following up with college admissions offices to verify that applications are complete

STUDENTS MUST ADHERE TO ALL DEADLINES

• Transcript request forms, counselor letter of recommendation forms, and teacher recommendation request forms are all due at least 30 days prior to the college application deadline.

• We cannot guarantee that late submissions will arrive at the college prior to the deadline.
