Next up: Step-by-step . . .

Drawing yourself

1. Draw an oval for the face shape.

2. Add light lines down the middle.

3. Draw an almond shape on the horizontal line, one on either side of the vertical line.

Drawing yourself

4. Draw circle in each almond. Add small circle inside bigger one and fill in.

5. Draw a line for each eyebrow.

6. Draw another light line centered between eye line and chin.

10. Add short marks between eyes, from brows to right below eyes.

11. Draw another light line between nose and chin.

12. Draw line curved up a little on each side of vertical line, along lip line.

Drawing yourself

13. Draw flattened M shape for top lip. Draw another flatter one in between.

14. Draw large, open curves on both sides of head. Start at eye level and stop at bottom of nose.

15. Add curvy shape inside ears if you want.

Drawing yourself

16. Draw hairline above eyebrows & below top of oval. Only draw the outside edge!

17. Add lines for neck, in a little from oval edges.

18. Continue neck lines down through shoulders. (These should slope down and out).

Drawing yourself

19.Add lines to show a shirt collar: t-shirt, buttoned shirt, tank top . . .

20. If you have glasses, I’ll show you in a minute how to draw them.

Glasses

1. Draw light lines between eyes & brows, and just below eyes.

2. Draw basic shape of lenses on each side of nose. Fill out frame shape (thicker line).

Glasses

3. Connect lenses with upside-down U across nose, between eyes.

4. Find center of outer edge of lenses, and draw thick lines up to ears.

Making the printing plate

• When you have your self-portrait the way you want it:• Erase any guide lines (so you don’t accidentally

put glue on them)

• Open the glue bottle slightly– you want just enough glue to make a raised line.

• Follow the demonstration!

• Test on scrap paper before you start!
