A DANGEROUS car sold to undercover investigators has led to a village motor dealer being fined thousands of pounds.

Robin Guest, 49, trading as Guest Manor Cars and Storage, in Rugby Road, Withybrook, has been ordered to pay a to-tal of £5,860 in fines and costs after he pleaded guilty to three offences at Warwickshire Jus-tice Centre related to selling an unroadworthy vehicle.

The prosecution came after Warwickshire County Coun-cil’s Trading Standards Service launched an investigation into unroadworthy vehicles.

Trading standards officers ap-proached Guest after he adver-tised a Rover 214 car for sale on the internet earlier this year. The car was advertised as having an MoT and tax and was later de-

scribed as being ‘sold as seen and tried, no warranty given or implied’.

Officers bought the car and then transported it to another lo-cation where it was tested by Ve-hicle Operator Services Agency (VOSA) staff. They discovered a catalogue of problems which made the vehicle unroadworthy and a danger to drive.

Guest said since the investiga-tion he has altered his practices and now arranged for cars taken in part exchange to be MoT-ed and defects put right before be-ing put up for sale.

Guest admitted three offences relating to the sale of an un-roadworthy vehicle, misleading the buyer by selling the vehicle as ‘sold as seen’ and failing to include information about who owned the business in business documents including invoices.

Cllr Richard Hobbs, portfolio holder to community protection at WCC, said: “These are finan-cially very difficult times and when people have less money to spend they, and I include many young drivers, will be looking to the second hand car market.

“It is crucial therefore that people wanting to buy a used car, whatever its price, should have confidence that the vehi-cle they are purchasing is road-worthy and safe to drive. Un-roadworthy vehicles put at risk the lives of all road users.

Cllr Hobbs added: “Warwick-shire Trading Standards Service will continue to take action to prevent the sale of potentially dangerous and unroadworthy vehicles, helping to ensure con-sumers aren’t deceived into buy-ing cars that could be worthless and potentially lethal to drive.”

A CHARITY has received a £500 boost thanks to the generosity of a decorated Polish war hero.

Ninety-one-year-old Mr Pawel Hrycuk, from Rugby, was injured in 2009 when he was hit by a car whilst out walking.

He has now made a full recovery and with the help of Nuneaton-based Imperium Law has been compensated for his injury. This compen-sation took the amount that Imperium have

recovered for clients to over £1 million and partners Chris Ward and Phillip Jackson wanted to mark the milestone.

Chris said: “We asked Mr Hrycuk to nominate his favourite charity so we could make a donation in his name, and he chose the British Heart Foundation who helped him re-cover from heart problems a few years ago.

“We are delighted to make a contribution to such a worthy cause.”
