Happy New Year!
It feels good to begin the new year with a spirit of giving. I had the hon-
or of presenting a quilt I made myself to a Desert Storm veteran. It never
fails to impress me the pain, fear and hardship combat veterans struggle to
overcome in their daily lives. I feel grateful for all the comfort and
healing a quilt can bring.
Let's keep up the spirit of giving all throughout the year.

Block of the Month Block of the month will return next month. Fabric, pattern will be distributed at the January meeting.
UFO Challenge for 2017
I wanted to make you all aware of a fun UFO Challenge that is offered by allpeoplequilt.com. The chal-
lenge is free and works this way. Go to the website and download the 2017 Challenge sheet OR just list
on a piece of paper 12 UFOs that you have in your life. Then every month, All People Quilt will give you
a number corresponding to the month that you need to finish during that month. Nancie DeProspero and I
did this last year and it was such fun. I think that I finished about half the UFOs that I had listed so
the others will go on this year’s list. After you make your list you go to the website and they will
indicate which month you need to finish. As an example this year’s January UFO to finish is the one
that you listed in the sixth position. Mine just happens to be my Challenge Project for the Quilt show
(see page 8 for details). It would be fun if several of you members did this too
and then on the quilt guild meeting nights, we could “share” our finished
UFOs. Maybe we could even get Kathy Smolinski to give us a little $$$$ to award
at the quilt dinner in December to those who finished the most UFOs.
Happy New Year’s Quilting from your Newsletter Editors.
The Zentangle method is a way of creating artwork by drawing structured patterns one line at a time. Almost anyone can do it, it’s relaxing, and contributes to stress reduction, increased creativity and peace of mind.
In this Zen Quilting class, we’ll learn to adapt these simple , repetitive patterns to free motion stitching to create beau-tifully intricate works of art.
This class will be taught by Pam Brooks CZT Cost is $ 30. Saturday February 4 from 10:15 to 3:15pm at the Asotin Co library
Tuesday February 7 from 10-3pm at Emerald Garden Quilt Shop (This is the same class given twice , you are signing up for either day.)
Please sign up and pay for the class at the January meeting.

Seaport Quilters’ Guild Challenge for 2017
The intent of the 2017 Challenge is to create a Meteor Shower of quilts for the comfort quilt committee. Your chal-
lenge is to create a lap size (35” X 45”) or comfort (45” X 54”, no larger) quilt. The quilt top does not have to be quilted to enter the challenge. But you must include in your quilt:
Something old
Something new
Something borrowed (clarification—rather than borrowed, let’s say “obtained" from another source, but not sto-
len. It was pointed out to us that you can NOT return fabric that you put in a quilt.)
Something “NOT BLUE”
In other words you may use any color in the quilt including blue, but blue cannot be a major theme to the quilt.
We all have patterns that we purchased that we “meant” to use at some point; old fabric that has been
sitting around for a while just waiting for a quilting opportunity; or there may be a technique that we have been
wanting to try, but not sure on what project. Give all those ideas a go and have your challenge ready for the March
meeting. The four points need to be made clear on your entrée form. Well, it will be apparent how much “blue” you
used. J Have fun!!!
