Self-Guided Wood Stork TourFollow the Blue Wood Stork trail makers to return to the Wood Stork Gate!

2. All of Lakeland's treated wastewater enters thewetlands at the Influent, averaging 10 million gallonsper day.

3. Distribution ditches slow and distribute water as itflows into the wetlands.

4. Upland habitats support ground nesting birds like theEastern meadowlark. This area also shows off theberms, which act as walls between each wetland cell.

5. Gopher tortoises can be found in upland habitats.They share their burrows with over 350 otherspecies, making them a keystone species.

6. Control structures maintain the flow of water fromone wetland cell to the next.

7. Waterfowl such as the hooded merganser use thisdistribution ditch.

8. The wetlands are home to many frog species, whichare important as predators and prey.

9. Grassy fields are a great spot to view butterflies anddragonflies as they zip from plant to plant.

10. Key upland vegetation includes giant live oaks, sawpalmettos, and tall pine trees.

11. Pond turtles like the Florida red-bellied cootercan commonly be seen basking in the ditches.
