SCULPTURE AND DRAWINGFor GAD
5 WEEKS IN 5 MINUTES With Dustin Tabor
IN WEEK 1• We Focused on Organic shapes
• Plus Basic shapes and Nets
Here is an example of some of the
work provided by me
For the organic shapes one thing I
chose was a yellow squash.
And for the basic shapes I chose to
create a bank out of squares,
rectangles, and triangles! All while
using nets to create every block!
Although I could have made some
minor changes I thought everything
went great my first week.
FOR WEEK 2• We worked with Positive and negative space.
My first choice Was to go abstract
But to show a more
basic understanding
of Positive and
Negative, I drew the
Batman mask that
you see here.
• We also worked on Enclosure, and how to design and construct a sculptural form. I drew multiple enclosures. But I chose to construct a loot chest that has been an idea for my future game, that I am creating while I am in school! And created it out of illustration board.
• Here's a quick look from start to finish.
THEN WEEK 3
• One thing we had to do, was draw a Metaphorical Composition. While trying to stay completely creative, and also staying away from being cliché at all! I chose to draw my little rabbit here who wears his own “Lucky Rabbits Foot”
• What I was trying to say is that “Everyone wants to be a little lucky!”
• Then we got the chance to create a complete sculpture, while only using wire. This is the turnout for mine! From beginning to end!
DURING WEEK 4
• We started to work on the Human Form
• This did not start off well for me since we had to try and draw Larger scale “Gesture Drawings” These were drawn on 18”x24” Newsprint paper.
• The big guy to the left here, is the pose I chose to use when we started the next assignment!
• The first part of assignment 2 in week 4, I had to create a wire armature and get it into a pose that I had chosen. I of course chose the Muscle guy from my gesture drawings. And these are some images I got to show the class.
• Then for my first time ever, I was able to apply clay to the wire armature. Since we were working on the human form, I learned how to build this model from the inside out. So these first pictures show how my first clay sculpture got started.
• With No Aluminum foil at all I was able to create a rib cage and a pelvic area. I then added a little more clay to give me a basic shape
• By the end of this week I needed to have the basic form of a human, and the expressive state needed to be indicated by the pose and body gesture
THE GREAT WEEK 5• This was when I started to add detail to my clay sculpture.
• After “multiple” layers of clay were added to this figure I started to get a very well built character. And he started to look toned.
• As I progressed I learned that my muscle structure was not adding up to par. So I continued to add and define until the legs and chest were at great proportion. These are a few images of that process.
• As this character continued to grow I started to add things like clothes, a weapon, and a more defined chest that includes a collar bone and some scars (one of the few cool features of this figure in my opinion).
• Continue on to see a more finished figure
• I really like how my first sculpture turned out. I think with a lot of new knowledge I was able to create a solid build that shows great detail!
• Here is a 360 view of what my final Figure looked like by the end of class. In the next slide I show you a nice close up, along with my artist statement.
• This class is exactly why I started in Game Art and Design! Being able to take an idea from my head, and creating it from scratch. All while watching it grow into something that not only I like, but also into something everyone can enjoy! I want the people to know that I care about what I create. When this humungous creature comes running at you in my soon to be videogame. You will know that it was done to the best of my abilities, and this will be completely noticeable! But nowadays this is not always true. Some people just don’t care enough for it to show at all! And we have many games that just get tossed away for taking up to much space. As I continue on with this career path. I will always try my hardest to create my work with Quality Craftsmanship!
Because,
My games will never be thrown away!
