School newsletter Term 3 Week 2

Dear Parents and friends,
After some great training during sport on Friday, we are
looking forward to our Athletics Carnival this Friday in
Nyngan. I have attached the term planner and classroom
outline to this newsletter to give you an insight into term 3.
Canteen – Canteen will be this Wednesday. If you would
like your child to order lunch, please send the order in by
Wednesday morning. The P&C provides a fruit platter for
all children to enjoy at recess along with the donated
healthy muffins. Please see the roster attached from Katie.
General Assistant – We are pleased to report that
Rebecca Lawson will relieve as the school’s General
Assistant.
Personalised Learning Plan – Each term we meet
individually with parents and students to discuss the learning goals and progress of your child.
This terms PLP meetings will be held on Monday 5th August. Please contact Kerrie if you need
to change the allocated time.

School Fun Run- This year we will again participate in the
School Fun Run as we have done biannually. For our event this
year we will hold a Splash n’ Dash activity afternoon on19th
September. Students will take home sponsorship forms this
week. Please read the instructions inside and if you have any
question please contact Mrs Edge. Money and forms will need to be returned by 13th
September. We participated in this event 2 years ago and raised over $2000 for our school.
This year the funds will go towards a whole school end of year trip to Cobar swimming pool
and towards the play equipment project.

Premiers Reading Challenge- Well done to Jayden and Will who have already completed the
Premiers Reading Challenge. Students have until the 30th August to complete this challenge.
Year 3-6 need to have read 20 books and K-2 have read or been read 30 books.
Premiers Sporting Challenge- As the end of last term got very busy we will be continuing the
premiers sporting challenge for the next 5 weeks (week 2-6). Students are encouraged to
keep active at home and school. Please record your child’s activity on the student cards and
return to school each Friday for Will to enter.
Scholastic book club magazines are attached for your enjoyment and shopping pleasure!
School Photos are being held on Monday 9th September. Attached is the information you
need to order your photo package. Please follow the instructions using the code provided.
Money, money, money - Many thanks to
Oliver’s Pop, Brian for coming to school at the
end of last term to tell us about some of his
notes, coins and tokens. The students were
very interested in the history behind the
money, Brian’s stories of being a collector and
what to look out for when collecting. We
appreciated Brian’s time very much.
Vegie patch - The schools vegetable garden
is producing an abundance of delicious
produce. We shared purple and orange
carrots last week and Students have been
picking and (sometimes) enjoying the
produce at home. Ruby M, Ruby T, Riley,
Oliver and Marlie with some gigantic
Swedes.

School readers – Kinder to year 2 were given a folder of readers to read and enjoy
during the holidays. These MUST be returned to school tomorrow as they are part of
our school reading program.
Films by ….. we are very excited to be included in this amazing opportunity. Mrs Lewis has been in talks
with the Films by….crew since last year so we are very pleased to secure a date. Students will spend 2
days learning all aspects of film making including script writing, sound, directing, acting and editing.
We will make our own film as will groups from Girilambone, Marra Creek, Nyngan PS and other small
schools. After the films are complete, we will schedule a virtual film screening time that all of the
community can come to.
The films by….. films that have been created by thousands of children across NSW are amazing and
the project is support by the Department of Education with their patron being Bryon Brown. You can

Our dates are – Wednesday 4th and Thursday
5th September at Nyngan PS. We will travel in
each day on Vanes bus service leaving
school at 7.45am and returning by 4.15pm.

Time (Kindergarten)
Science Students will identify daily and seasonal changes in the environment and investigate how living
things respond to these changes in the environment. They will investigate observable changes
that occur in the sky and landscape and explore the effect of the interactions between the
Earth and the Sun. Students will be able to identify Earth’s place in the solar system.
History K-2: Personal & Family Histories: Students develop a thorough knowledge of who the people in
their family are, where they were born and raised and how they are related to each other. They
begin to recognise different family structures and can compare the similarities and differences.
They begin to understand how stories of families and the past can be communicated.
3-6: Australian Colonies: Students will explore the reasons (economic, political and social) for
the establishment of British colonies in Australia after 1800. Students will look at the nature of
convict or colonial presence & how the environment changed. They will also investigate the
impact of a significant development or event on a colony (frontier conflict, gold rushes, Eureka
Stockade, expansion of farming, drought. Students will also explore the reason people migrated
to Australia & the role that a significant individual or group played on shaping a colony.
Creative Arts Drama Students will be taught several dance moves & sequences which then may be
combined to depict a sequenced dance. The elements of dance will be taught and
incorporated into their dances.
Dance Students will expand imaginative play to role playing and dramatic context. They will
take on a variety of roles & use a several elements of drama to enhance viewing &
participation.
Each Thursday, Mrs Edge will be guiding students in Creative Arts.

Safe and active Students will develop the
knowledge, understanding & skills to
empower them to make healthy & safe
choices. They will participate in a variety of
structured movement activities to foster
awareness of personal safety.
Being safe and active Students will become
active participants in their healthy choices. They
will plan assertive responses to a variety of
situations where they will be required to be safe.
Students will explore safe behaviours indoors &
outdoors along with being a supportive up
stander.
Sport & (PE) Our sporting focus for the beginning of the term will be Athletics training. The second half will
see us undertaking gymnastics skills development.
In PE students will focus on 4 skills – vertical jump, catch, overarm throw, lunge.
Library Children will have the opportunity to borrow library books on Thursdays. They will also be given a
library bag to store their books. Please bring books back so Kerrie can keep the library up to
date.
At home We ask that children enjoy reading each night with a parent (K-4) or independently (5-6).
Please complete the reading record booklet as children will mark their daily reading
progress on a wall poster in the classroom. I encourage children to enjoy playing whilst at
home – sometimes the best lessons are the unplanned ones.

Kerrie also emails the newsletter so please ensure Kerrie has your email address.
Teachers are available between 8.30am – 9am and from 3.00- 3.30pm. Kerrie will take
messages throughout the day if you need to contact us.
