SATELLINE®-3AS and SATELLINE®-3ASdHigh-Speed UHF Radio Modem withDeveloped Data Transfer CharacteristicsSATELLINE-3AS is a half-duplex radio modem suitablefor a variety of data transfer applications, in particularones demanding high speed and precision. Inaddition to the maximum data speed of 19.2 kbpsand channel spacing 25 kHz or 12.5 kHz, it offersa number of features and functions. Message Routingis a new feature in SATELLINE-3AS modems, whichmakes it easier to build up a large radio modemnetwork.

The SATELLINE-3AS software includes a selectableerror correction, which improves the functioning ofthe radio modem under interference.

SATELLINE-3AS is compatible with the interfacetypes RS-232, RS-422 and RS-485. Without changingthe hardware all the parameter settings of the radiomodem can be modified through the interface froma PC.

The model SATELLINE-3ASd is equipped with aLCD display of its own, which facilitates programmingof the radio modem.

Message Routing features a versatileradio protocol, which takes care of routingmessages across a radio modem network.Communication is completely transpa-rent, which makes Message Routing di-rectly compatible for most user protocols.

Even though the network can coverlarge areas with multiple hops and repea-ter stations, only one radio channel isrequired. Any radio modem in the net-

work can act as a repeater station keepinginfrastructure expenses low.

Message Routing has two operatingmodes to suit the various requirementsof different users: Source Mode and Vir-tual Mode. Virtual Mode has the smallestpossible overhead for fast operationidentification. Source Mode uses a slightlylonger header than Virtual Mode to ena-ble more versatile network handling. InSource Mode it is possible to design failurehandling features right in the network,and to use mobile stations.

A versatile radio modem witha number of user’s choices

The SATELLINE-3AS radio modem con-sists of a synthesized transceiver and amodem board, packed in a compact alu-minium case. The model SATEL-LINE-3ASd is additionally equipped with a userinterface LCD display.

SATELLINE-3AS exhibits a maxi-mum data speed of 19.2 kbps. Two diffe-rent channel spacing, 25 kHz and 12.5kHz are available. The correspondingnumbers of radio channels are 80 and160, respectively.

SATELLINE-3AS is compatible withthe three most widely used standard datainterfaces RS-232, R-422 and RS-485.The radio modem can be connected toa terminal with any one of these inter-faces. The data speed is selectable withinthe limits 300...38 400 bps.

In the SATELLINE-3AS the error rateis minimized by means of advancechecking and correction of the data pac-kets. In Forward Error Correction (FEC),the data packets are split in several blocks.The radio modem adds correction infor-mation inside the blocks during transmis-sion.

In SATELLINE-3AS the setting ofoperating parameters and selection ofmode and function is performed with aPC through the RS interface. The modelSATELLINE-3ASd is equipped with aLCD display and four push buttons. Inaddition to changing the setups of theradio modem, the display is used for te-sting operating condition of the radioconnection between two stations.

The software of the SATELLINE-3ASresides in a flash memory. The updatingof the radio modem programs is entirelysoftware-based. The flash memory is re-programmable through an RS interface.

SATELLINE-3AS can be operated ata voltage range 9...30 V. In practice thismeans that the radio modem is adaptableto both 12 Vdc and 24 Vdc systems.

Auxiliary functions

With the radio modem in the Test Mode,the state of the radio connection can betested by means of data packets or thecarrier wave.

The Data Transfer mode of the SA-TELLINE-3AS includes a Command Pro-

gram function in which the radio channeland addresses can be changed on-linefrom the serial port of the radio datamodem. The changes are effected by me-ans of a specific programming package(SL command), which is entered amidstordinary data.
