President’s messageOn behalf of the Saskatoon Sports Hall of Fame, I sincerely congratulate and welcome

the slate of selected inductees for induction into the Saskatoon Sports Hall of Fame, Nov., 1, 2008 at TCU Place.

The time and effort, as well as their accomplishments that these individuals contributed to the Saskatoon sporting community, make them most deserving of this recognition.

I encourage and ask all past inductees to make the effort to honour the inductees of 2008 by attending the dinner and induction ceremony as they are about to become part of the same, special, sporting fraternity.

Don (Butch) Steponchev has been selected as referee supervisor for wheelchair basketball at the Paralympic Games this summer in Beijing.

Steponchev was inducted as a builder in the Saskatoon Sports Hall of Fame in 1993 . . . Ray Remmen (athlete inductee, harness racing, 1993) and his brother, Larry,

recently posted their 1,500th career win at the Meadowlands, setting a record for trainers at the Rutherford, N.J., racetrack . . . Ross Wilson, who is being inducted into the Hall this year as a builder, is the 2008 recipient of the Austin-Matthews Award for outstand-ing contribution to Canadian Interuniversity

Sport . . . Ralph Schoenfeld (builder inductee, 2005, basketball) is on the organizing committee for the 50th anniversary school reunion at Aden Bowman Collegiate, scheduled for Aug. 22-24. Bowman alumni in the Hall of Fame include Diane Jones Konihowski (athlete inductee, 1986), Charlene Archibald (team inductee, University of Saskatchewan Huskiette volleyball, 1992) and Tom Sargeant (team inductee, Saskatoon Hilltops, 1986, 1995, 2002) . . . Catriona Le May Doan (athlete inductee, 1998) was inducted into the Canadian Olympic

Hall of Fame in April . . . Hall of Fame director and inductee Joe Bloski is president of the organizing committee for the Can-Am Police-Fire Games, July 13-20 in Saskatoon. The event features police and fire personnel from through-

out North America competing in a range of sports . . . Tom Pater-son (athlete inductee, 1995) won his second Canadian Open five-pin bowling singles title in May this year, 25 years after his first championship . . . Lesley Wright (athlete inductee, synchro swimming, 2005) has retired as a performer with the Cirque de Soleil in Las Vegas after a seven-year run and is enrolled in the journalism/public relations program at the University of Nevada/Las Vegas . . . Simon Hiatt of Shaw Cable has taped interviews with many of the 2008 inductees to air on Channel 10 in the weeks leading up to the induction dinner Nov. 1.
