We use mainly three types of mirrors

1. Convex mirror 2.Concave mirror 3.Plane mirror

CONVEX MIRROR

1.They are curved outwards

2. They shows object closer than they appear

Concave mirror

1.They are curved inwards

2.They shows object wider than they appear

PLANE MIRROR

Shows the actual & virtual images

Principal axis

Focal length of concave mirror

• The focal length of a concave mirror is the distance between its pole and principal focus.

Images formed by concave mirror

2. When object is beyond C

The image formed is• between the C & F• Real & inverted• smaller than the object

3.When the object at C

The image formed is• at the center of curvature • real & inverted• same size as the object

4. When object is between C & F

The image formed is•Beyond C•Real & inverted•larger than the

Object

5. When object is at F

The image is•At infinity•Real & inverted•Highly magnified

6. When object is between P & F

The image is

•Behind the mirror

•Virtual & erect

•Larger than the

object

Images formed by convex mirror

1.When object is beyond pole

The image is•Behind the

Mirror between

P & F•Virtual & erect•diminished

2.When object at infinity

The image is

•Behind the mirror

•Virtual & erect

•Highly diminished
