To design a 50 room hotel in the Galt downtown of Cambridge, Ontario, I’ve created a courtyard in it’s centre, which all else revolves around. Although physically separate from the two streets which it faces on, it is visually connected by a glazed lobby along Main St. and a series of punched windows which view it through the restaurant/bar from the Eastern Street.

The Building is meant to act as a frame for the court-yard for the people on the street. The exposed concrete structure is and hyper-simplified. It is a building which, opposed to being the source of beauty, showcases it, while flowing seamlessly with rhythm of the downtown strip.

With concrete floors, and a con-crete wall running through its cen-tre, as well as double stud walls and triple glazed windows, the Trombe House was designed to heat, cool and ventilate itself first passively and second mechanically.In the winter heating centers around the interior concrete wall which runs through the bedroom wing of the house. During the day while it is warm heat is stored in the wall via the highly glazed south wall as well as the fireplace in the living room and is released at night. The house can be built with cheap, common place materials. Save the barbed rebar which would have to be produced for the project. This however works very well on a large scale when cheap housing is need-ed en mass, as the pre-fab system allows the frame to be built quickly, with inexperienced laborers.

A small temporary residence for a solitary artist at work. Set in a meadow, the living program recoils into the hill while the studio grows out and looks across it.

St. Mary’s Chapel ALTAR + PULPIT + TABERNACLE + INTERIOR

This project was done while on Co-op with an Edmonton based firm. Working closely with the project, a chapel that was already in construction, I designed a suite of furniture, coordinated and specified finishes as well as drafted bid con-tracts and correspondence with the client in order to pull the details together.
