Mission Appeal Next Sunday
Fr. Paul Anel, O.S.A., of Heart’s Home USA will preach at all the Masses next weekend, June 4th-5th, and offer this year’s mission appeal.
Founded in 1990, Heart’s Home is a Catholic Move-ment present in 24 countries. A ‘heart’s home’ is a house of prayer and hospitality, where anyone knock-ing at the door is welcome and listened to. Each house is made of 4 or 5 young adults -- volunteers, priests, religious sisters or lay consecrated -- who reach out everyday to the most suffering and iso-lated, in a spirit of friendship and compassion, follow-ing the example of Mary, who stood at the foot of the cross. In New York, Heart’s Home runs a center in the housing projects of Fort Greene (Brooklyn), a retreat center in the Catskills, and has sent over 70 American volunteers on long-term missions overseas.

From the Pastor’s Desk…
Oh Sacrament Most Holy; Oh Sacrament Divine,
All praise and all thanksgiving be every moment thine.
Today, we celebrate the Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and
Blood of Christ popularly known as Corpus Christi. This feast was
instituted by Pope Urban IV in 1264 who asked St. Thomas
Aquinas, still alive at that time, to write hymns for the feast and he
wrote two, better known to the older members of our congregation as
“Tantum Ergo” and “O Salutaris.”
The Catechism of the Catholic Church states: “The Eucharist is
source and summit of the Christian life…For in the blessed
Eucharist is contained the whole spiritual good of the Church, namely
Christ himself… … In brief, the Eucharist is the sum and
summary of our faith: Our way of thinking is attuned to the
Eucharist, which in turn confirms our way of thinking”
(CCC1324-5).
Jesus feeds us spiritually in the Sacrament of the Eucharist. When we
look at the host, we look at Christ. When we share in the
Eucharistic meal we share in the life of Christ and in the life of the
Church, his body. And this is a great mystery, that the very source of
our salvation is transformed into something you can hold in the palm
of your hand. And of course, that we carry something greater than
ourselves.
Walking with the Lord (Corpus Christi Procession) We will honor the Body of Christ as we process outdoors with the
Blessed Sacrament. When we carry the Eucharist into our neighbor-
hood we are professing our faith outside the doors of our Church.
This Procession will be at the conclusion of the 12:15 PM Mass. We encourage all to participate in the Corpus Christi Procession.
We also celebrate the Flower Festival in honor of our Mother of
Perpetual Help. The procession will be taken on the streets of
Jamaica during which the participants will pray the Rosary and sing
the Marian Songs.
The Recipients of the Person of the Year Award We had our Annual Volunteers Appreciation Day celebration on May
21st. We thank all the volunteers who participated in the
celebration and all those who serve St. Nicholas of Tolentine Church
throughout the year. I would like to share with you and congratulate
Nina Rivera who was given the award of the person of the Year
2016. Her outstanding loyalty and dedicated service to St. Nick’s for
the past few years is truly appreciated. May God continue to use her
for His glory.
God bless you,
Fr. John Francis
