Registration to participate in this year’s March for Life
is now open and continues through December 8.
The Office for Family, Youth, and Young Adults is offering the opportunity for high
school age young people in the Diocese of Grand Rapids to participate in the annual
March for Life in Washington DC, January 23-26, 2020. The cost per person is
$325, ($175.00 for St Marys/St Michaels Youth Group Members) covering bus transporta-
tion to and from Washington, two night’s lodging, and 5 meals. Participants will need
additional money to pay for 3 meals, subway fare, and sightseeing. Limited financial assis-
tance from the Diocese is available on request. Please contact Mark Mann. All requests
for financial aid must be received by December 8. All documents necessary for your
parish or school group’s participation are attached. Promotional materials and flyers can
be found at
https://marchforlife.org/mfl-2020/ Mark Mann | director, family, youth, and young adult ministries
Parents: Please consider sending your high school students on this trip. Disregard the cost listed
above. Because of fundraising we are able to offer it for $175 per student . Proper paperwork
is required and needs to be returned to me by Dec. 1 so I can finalize my chaperone
paperwork and get a check to the diocese. Students who have attended this trip have had an
incredible time. The impact on their lives have been profound and very impactful. I have
attended this trip for six years now and it is a very safe trip. If you have any questions, please
let me know. You can email me at ssmith@jarvishandling.com or call at 616.446.6390.

Lord God, the source of all love, the wise plan of your
providence has brought these young
people together. As they prepare them-
selves for the sacrament of marriage and
pray for your grace, grant that, strength-
ened by your blessing, they may grow in
their respect for one another and cherish
each other with a sincere love. We ask this through
Christ our Lord. Amen

November 17 In Todays Gospel from Luke, we
hear about courage and strength. It is not easy to be a
follower of Jesus and take our place in society as a
Christian. Jesus warned anyone who wanted to follow
him that they would need to be brave and strong. The
Holy Spirit will empower us to share our faith with the
world and to stand up for our Christian values of love
and justice.

Children’s Liturgy of the Word: this program is offered on Sunday
during both Masses. Children 3-7 years old are welcome to join us each week
as we pray, read and explore the Sunday Gospel from a child’s viewpoint. Faith
is trusting in God who has made a way for us to live with him forever. We
don’t use blocks, stones, or bricks to build God’s Kingdom. We use love, truth,
and fairness to build God’s Kingdom. There will not be CLW Sunday, De-
cember 1st due to Thanksgiving.
Elementary Faith Formation: The elementary program is for students
in grades 1-5. We meet on Wednesday from 6:00- 7:30 pm. There will not
be class Wednesday, Nov. 27th due to Thanksgiving. Have a safe and
wonderful holiday.

Prayer & Reflection— What will attract others to the truth and power of the Gospel? When they
see Christians loving their enemies, being joyful in suffering, patient in adversity,
pardoning injuries, and showing comfort and compassion to the hopeless and
the helpless. Jesus tells us that we do not need to fear our adversaries. God will
give us sufficient grace, strength, and wisdom to face any trial and to answer
any challenge to our faith. Are you ready to lay down your life for Christ and to
bear witness to the joy and freedom of the Gospel?
"Lord Jesus Christ, by your atoning death on the cross you have redeemed
the world. Fill me with joyful hope, courage, and boldness to witness the truth
of your love for sinners and your victory over the powers of sin, Satan, and
death.”
Euchre Anyone? Hello friends! Would you like to get together
during the afternoon here at St. Michael's Family
Center to play euchre? I would like to lead this
activity to provide fellowship & fun a few times a
month from 1:30-4:00PM. I'm thinking of playing
either on Monday, Wednesday or Thursday. The
cost would be $.50 and Fountain View Assisted
Living will sponsor these & provide coffee & a
snack. Let me know if you'd be interested (and
which day would be your preference) by texting
me at: 616-477-3645. (A schedule will be created
& posted.)

November 2019 Dear friends in Christ, Nearly 1.7 million households in Michigan could not afford basic household necessities such as housing, child care, health care, food, and transportation in 2017. (2019 ALICE Report, Michigan Association of United Ways) These are our neighbors. Their story is similar to the story of so many others around the country. Families who work but cannot make ends meet. You have the opportunity to help your neighbor through the Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD) collection. This collection will be taken up in our diocese next weekend, November 23-24. The funds raised in this annual collection help to provide solutions at the grassroots level; empowering people to identify problems, make decisions, and find ways to improve their lives and neighborhoods. In this year’s message for the World Day for the Poor, Pope Francis says, “Jesus who inaugurated his kingdom by placing the poor at the center, wanted to tell us precisely this: he inaugurated the kingdom, but he has entrusted to us, his disciples, the task of carrying it forward with responsibility for giving hope to the poor.” The CCHD collection is a tangible way to respond to this call. This collection is the primary source of funding for the CCHD’s anti-poverty grants and education programs. Our diocese retains 25 percent of what is collect-ed at your parish to help fund local anti-poverty projects. Programs that received grants because of your gen-erosity last year include St. Patrick-St. Anthony’s migrant ministry in Grand Haven, Community EnCompass Youth Empowerment Program in Muskegon, Healthy Homes Coalition of West Michigan’s Parents for Healthy Homes and Catholic Charities West Michigan’s pregnancy counseling and support services program. Organizations funded by the CCHD adhere to the moral and social teachings of the Catholic Church. Your support for this collection makes a difference for our neighbors. Please prayerfully consider how you can help this year. For more information about the collection and those whom it supports, visit http://www.usccb.org. Thank you for joining me in the work of bringing hope to those living in poverty. Sincerely yours in Christ,
Most Reverend David J. Walkowiak Bishop of Grand Rapids
