Saint JeromeBy: Austin

Why is St. Jerome a saint

The reason St. Jerome became a saint is because he translated the bible in Latin and created his own version of the Old Testament.

Starting as a child St. Jerome didn’t get baptized until he was twenty years old.

When he was a student St. Jerome learned how to speak Latin and Greek.

After a few years St. Jerome became really interested in the bible.

He started to go on journeys so he could learn even more about the bible.

St. Jerome, Bonosus, and some of his followers came from place to place.

On his journeys he was translating many different bibles in Latin and Hebrew but this took him months or probably years.

Even some of his followers died during his adventures even St. Jerome had been ill also.

St. Jerome came to Bethlehem to tell stories and finish his works on the old testament.

Birth/Death

St. Jerome was born in the year 340 in Stridon, Dalmatia.

People say that St. Jerome died from natural causes.

St. Jerome was known for being the first one to translate the bible in Latin and many other languages. ( Old Testament )

St. Jerome is recognized by a catholic church as a saint and also a doctor.

St. Jerome’s version of the old testament , known as the vulgate , was St. Jerome’s biggest achievement.

There is one prayer that I found that is called ‘ Prayer of Saint Jerome.’

The prayer goes like this:

O Lord, show Your mercy to me and gladden my heart. I am like the man on the way to Jericho who was overtaken by robbers, wounded and left for dead. O Good Samaritan, come to my aid. I am like the sheep that went astray. O Good Shepherd, seek me out and bring me home in accord with Your will. Let me dwell in Your house all the days of my life and praise You for ever and ever with those who are there.

Feast day

St. Jerome has two feast days and those are on:

September 30 western Christianity and for Eastern Christianity it is on June 15.

Symbols

The main symbol for St. Jerome is a lion.

Other symbols are a skull, an hourglass, cross, trumpet, owl, writing materials, and a blank book.

Here is a video which talks about some of the stuff in my power point
