DIVINE MERCY SUNDAY
APRIL 23, 2017
First Reading: Acts 2:42-47 In the early days of the Church in Jerusalem, the faithful listened intently to the teachings of the apostles. They lived a communal life, sharing all property in common and praying and taking their
meals together.
Second Reading: 1 Peter 1:3-9 In this first letter from Peter, he speaks to the
Christians with great joy and confidence, reminding them that through Christ’s resurrection, they have
been given a new birth and are heirs to the kingdom of heaven.
Gospel: John 20:19-31
After his resurrection, Jesus appears to his disciples and gives them the power to forgive sins. Thomas, who is absent, sees Christ later and believes in His
resurrection after feeling His wounds. Christ admonishes Thomas by saying, “You became a
believer because you saw Me. Blessed are they who have not seen and believed.”

PARISH DIVINE MERCY CHAPLETTE NEXT SUNDAY, APRIL 23RD – 3 PM
Please join us for the celebration of Divine Mercy Sunday right here in our own parish church. Divine Mercy Sunday is a very special Solemnity which is always celebrated on the first Sunday after Easter. It is a day that celebrates the merciful love of God shining through the whole of the Easter Triduum and the whole Easter mystery. It is a day of declaration of reparation for all sins. On this day, Jesus offers us the opportunity of receiving a plenary indulgence - the total forgiveness of all sins and punishment - to anyone who goes to confession (within 20 days of the feast) and receives Him in Holy Communion on that day.
ANNUAL LADIES GUILD MASS AND
COMMUNION BREAKFAST SATURDAY, MAY 6TH
This year, the Ladies Guild of Saint Aedan’s invites all women of the parish to join them as they, once again join forces with the ladies of our neighboring parish of Saint Catharine’s, Blauvelt. The day will begin with a 10:00 AM Mass to be held at St. Catharine’s. Following the Mass, we will enjoy a delicious breakfast at the 76 House in Tappan. The cost will be $25 per person. For reservations, please call Pat at 735-0948. All reservations must be received by April 30th. Please plan to join us on Saturday, May 6th, and help us to celebrate together as a community of faith. _____________________________________________

The world was a playground for Mickey, a naive Irish American kid bored with his life. His father served in World War II, his brother was a Marine in Vietnam; now it was his turn. His 365 days in Vietnam builds in torment until an attack on a bunker complex in Cambodia. Wounded, his friend captured, he becomes a tormented survivor knowing he is always just a heartbeat from death.
In this memoir, set as deeply in his mind as in the Southeast Asian jungle, a young American soldier embarks
on a journey to a war that, for him, will never be over.
