Start with a strong foundation.
The key to college success is mastering a set of skills that can get you
through your next four years. The Core Skills field does just that! Starting
with the First Year Connections Seminar, first-year students are introduced
to college life and the Rosemont Community. They learn the basics a
college student needs to get all As, builds strong friendships with fellow
classmates, and forms bonds with faculty who will personally guide you
through your experience at Rosemont. In First Year Composition, students
master how to write a quality paper - everything from picking a research
question and forming a thesis to organizing it and finding sources. Students
build on these skills in Advanced Composition and Oral Communication,
which places an emphasis on public speaking to conquer your fears and
clearly get your ideas across. This field may be one of the most important
you'll take your entire college career.

Ethics in ActionThe Core
Learn to make the right decision, all the time.
We are faced with ethical dilemmas all the time, and many times coming to
the right decision is difficult. The Ethics in Action field gives students the
skills needed to engage in ethical reasoning and make creative, moral
decisions. The courses in this section, combined with the interesting and
thought-provoking speakers and activities sponsored by Rosemont's
Institute for Ethical Leadership and Social Responsibility, not only help to
improve yourself, but gives you the confidence to stand up when someone
does something wrong, defining true leadership - a quality employers look
for.

Global AwarenessThe Core
Its not really a small world, after all.
There are over 7 billion people living in the world today. Of all
the people living on earth, probably the only thing that is
same between us all is we have a variety of different beliefs
and customs. The courses under Global Awareness are
designed to give you a firm background in the vast world we
live in today and its inhabitants. You'll take courses in two
sub-groups - Culture and Foreign Language - which will teach
you the skills needed to navigate the international world.

Senior CapstoneThe Core
Pull everything together, and prove youve learned something.
At the end of your college career, you will take the Senior Capstone component of
the Rosemont Experience. The idea is to take everything you have learned at
Rosemont - from your major, general education curriculum, experiential learning,
clubs, friends, and whatever else - and pull it all together in some sort of cumulating
project to prove you now have a completely well-rounded mind and deserve that
degree.

Social ScienceDeveloping the Core
Learn how people behave in this complex world.
Chances are there has been a time or two in your life when you have
scratched your head and wondered about people. We are complex,
social beings that act in some pretty mysterious ways. But there is some
explanation to our behavior, and the courses in the Social Science field
explore those roots. Drawing from a range of courses in psychology,
politics, sociology, and economics, you will learn exactly what causesus to do what we do and understand the external forces that force us
into behaving a certain way.

HumanitiesDeveloping the Core
Explore the human condition.
Since the dawn of man, humans have set out to create a civilization that is far
more complex and interesting than anything imaginable. To fully understand
where we are today, we must look at where we have come and the journey we
have taken to get here. The courses in the Humanities field examine the
histories, the great works of art, and the big questions that we have created for
ourselves over time. By the end, you not only will have the knowledge tosuccessfully compete on Jeopardy thanks to classes in history, English, and
philosophy, but also the skills needed to think critically, base your decisions in
life on evidence, and gain a better appreciation for the world we live in today.

A perfect way to showcase how specific Gen Ed sections and classes help the students. Faculty
provide the theory, students can show the connections between classes, Alumni how Rosemont
specifically helped/see how successful Rosemont alumni are!, and Employers what the

For example, I can explain how courses in the Humanities field helped me this election critically
evaluate the candidates and come to a conclusion that was based on facts and evidence.
