1. Paris wants to marry Capulet’s daughter Juliet.

2. Capulet asks Paris to wait 2 years.

3. Juliet is his only daughter and he won’t force her to marry, but if she chooses Paris he’ll agree to the marriage.

4. Capulet invites Paris to attend a party that night.

5. Capulet speaks in verse because he is upper class. The servants spoke in prose because they are lower class.

6. Benvolio says Romeo should look for other women (new infection to thy eye) to fawn over. Then his heartache will fade (poison of the old will die.)

7. Poison foreshadows death.

8. Benvolio suggests that Romeo go to the party and see other beautiful women and Rosaline will pale in comparison. And I will make thee think thy swan a crow.

9. Benvolio advises Romeo to look at other women because then Rosaline will not seem so great.
