Now, well see how we exhale or breathe out.
Exhalation2
When the muscles between the ribs relax, the rib cage moves downward and inward.
Exhalationrib cage moves downward and inwardrib cage moves downward and inward3
And when the diaphragm muscles relax, the diaphragm moves upward
Exhalationrib cage moves downward and inwardrib cage moves downward and inwarddiaphragm moves upward4
Well watch this happening.
Exhalationrib cage moves downward and inwardrib cage moves downward and inwarddiaphragm moves upward5
As everything is pushing inward, we see the volume inside the chest cavity decreases.
Exhalationthe volume inside decreases6
This means the pressure inside increases.
Exhalationthe pressure inside increases7
Now, the pressure inside the chest cavity is higher than atmospheric pressure. Remember that air moves from an area of higher pressure into an area of lower pressure.
Exhalationthe pressure inside is higher than atmospheric pressureatmospheric pressure8
So as the volume in the chest cavity decreases, air is pushed out of the lungs.
Exhalation9
So again, we dont have muscles in our lungs.
Exhalation10
It is when the muscles between our ribs and in our diaphragm relax,
Exhalationrib cage moves downward and inwardrib cage moves downward and inwarddiaphragm moves upward11
That the volume of the chest cavity is decreased and air is pushed out.
Exhalationrib cage moves downward and inwardrib cage moves downward and inwarddiaphragm moves upward12
Now, well have a look at the whole process of breathing
