Who the miller was• The miller was a large man. He was good at wrestling, played the

bagpipes, and was riding on a horse. He wore a white coat and a blue hood. When he played the bagpipes, people would run out of their houses, and would sing and dance. And one final thing was he was a jester, yet a man of sin. He was the third most powerful person in his village, behind the lord of the manor and the priest.

~miller continued~• It is a common mistake to assume that the miller's story is told in the

Miller's Tale, however it is not. Canterbury Tales is a contest to see who can tell the best tale while travelling to Canterbury. Each pilgrim has their chance at telling the best story. "The Miller's Tale," is not the story of the miller, but the tale told by the miller. He tells a tale about a carpenter, and the carpenter's wife. It is simply called "The Miller's Tale," because the person telling the tale is the miller. This drunken miller has related here how he confused and fooled a carpenter in the telling of this tale.

Thank you.
