Revitalising Your Home PageWith Noelette Hurley

Page Layouts

• How a UCC webpage looks depends on the page layout applied

• November 2017 – All existing CMS sites were given a make over

Revamped Homepages

• A selection of top level sites got an overhaul, not just a reskin

You and yours

• This session is about your homepage

• How do you get from

The Path to Change

• In the case of the School of Music and Theatre there was a major event

happening – The partnership with the Cork Oprah house was soon to be

confirmed

• This would be a very public announcement and a lot of traffic could be expected on the site

First Contact

• Initially the School of Music and Theatre contacted UCC’s content strategist Maurice Ryder.

• Maurice brought the Web Team in to help with the change over

• This would also be your first step in getting the new “fancy” landing page as your homepage

• Email cmssupport@ucc.ie

First Steps

• CMS Support will duplicated your site to the Test Internet

• CMS Support will:

• Apply the new page layouts

• Expire Old homepage content

• Add a minimum of two new content types to your new page

• The Banner image

• The Menu Block

Step Two

• Once you’ve requested that your site be duplicated:

FREEZE

• Make sure your moderators know not to make changes to your live site• Any changes made after the site has been duplicated will be lost when the updated site

is made live

Technically staff will be able to make changes, we just don’t want people having to duplicate their efforts by having to redo edits, but of course if something needs to change as a matter of urgency it would be possible

Ready, Steady, GO!

• Now that you are set up in the test internet you’ll need to know what content types you have available to you and how they work

• Documentation detailing each of the new content types can be found at:• https://www.ucc.ie/en/dewg/webshots/
