14.4 million people used social media to find their last job in 2011.

86% of employers say candidates should make their profiles more employer-friendly.

1 out of 3 employers rejected candidates because of something they found out about

them online.

It gets worse…

Every public tweet is fed into the us library of congress

A report from twitter said government requests are

generally made in conjunction with some kind of criminal

investigation; 815 requests came from the united states

government and twitter complied 69% of the time.

• Inappropriate pictures/info• Shared confidential info about past employer• Discriminatory comments• Lied about their qualifications• Bad mouthed past employer• Poor communication skills

Candidates ARE hired because of:

• Accounts supported qualifications• Awards & accolades were visible• Showcased a good “feel”/fit• Conveyed a professional image• Displayed creativity• Had good references
