Summary Overview of 2018 Conferences
attended by Members of the
Board of Directors
October 2018
PURPOSE
• This is an informational briefing of the Executive and
Governance Committee to provide a summary overview of the
industry and board governance conferences attended
between January and September of 2018 by Members of the
Board of Directors of the Metropolitan Washington Airports
Authority.

BACKGROUND
• In December 2016, the Board approved Board Guidelines for
Conference Travel, Professional Association Memberships and
Licenses by Members of the Airports Authority’s Board (“Guidelines).
• Those Guidelines recognize Airports Authority Board Member
attendance of industry conferences and other meetings sponsored by
trade associations, governmental authorities and other recognized
aviation/transportation organizations and consultants as beneficial to
the education of the Directors on information that is pertinent and
useful to the fulfillment of their Board assignments, and their overall
fiduciary and governance responsibilities to the Airports Authority.

DISCUSSION
• During 2018, 8 Directors attended industry conferences as
authorized by the Guidelines.
• This report provides a summary overview of the conferences
attended by those Directors.

and non-aeronautical revenue.
