What is RefWorks? RefWorks is a Web Based Bibliographic

Management Software and generates formatted reference lists and/or bibliographies.

With RefWorks you can: Import references from online databases Organize references into various topic folders Insert references in various citation style formats,

including Harvard into your research paper

Accessing RefWorks

Click “Databases” OR

Click “RefWorks”

Click “R” to locate RefWorks

Click “RefWorks”

Accessing RefWorks Off-Campus

Creating a new account

To create a new account, click “Sign Up for a New

Account”Fill in the required

information and click “Next”

Click “Create Account”

Creating a new folderClick here to create a

new folder

Name the folder

Add a new referenceClick “References”

and select “Add New”Select the applicable referencing style and

reference type and add the required information on the

fields

Importing ReferencesSelect “Journals” and

enter your keywords in the boxes and click

“Search”

Retrieved 22392 results, browse and

select relevant articles

Add the selected items to the marked list by

clicking “Go” tab.

Click “Marked lists” to view the selected

articles

1. Click “Select” to view the list2. Select the articles by checking

the boxes3. Click “Export to RefWorks”

...to RefWorks

Select the references by clicking “All in list”

and select your folder

Click “View Last Imported Folder”

Select the relevant databases and click

“Continue”

“Search”

Select the relevant articles by clicking on “Add to folder,” then click “Folder View”

Exporting References

1. Click “Select” to select all the references

2. Click “Export”

Select “Direct Export to RefWorks” and click “Save”

References from Online Catalogue

Click “Search” and select “Online Catalogue or

Database”

Select CPUT Online Catalogue

Select “Any Field” and enter your keywords in the boxes and

click “Search”

Select “Advanced Search”

Selecting References

Select relevant books and click “Import”

Downloading Write-N-Cite

Go to “Tools” and click “Write-N-Cite”

Click “Previous Versions” and click “Download”

Click “Save”

Click “Next”

Click “Run”

Select “Current User” then click “OK”

Click “Next” Click “Next”

Then click “Finish”Select the 1st option and click “Next”

Open Write-N-Cite by double clicking on this icon on the Desktop

2. Log-in using your student

number and network password

Click “Load it” to link your document / assignment to

Write-N-Cite
