REDISCOVERING BIBLICAL COMMUNITY
PT 1: Fellowship 101 By Andrew Foo (25/2/18)
1. Introduction
a) 2018 - Phil 2:4 (ERV)
4 Don’t be interested only in your own life, but care about the lives of others too.
- Culture of a caring community
b) Acts 2:42 (NLT) – Devoted to certain practices
42 All the believers devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching, and to
fellowship, and to sharing in meals (including the Lord’s Supper), and to
prayer.
2. Insights On Fellowship
a) “Koinonia”
A group with similar pursuits
Partnership
Mutual sharing
Relationship
b) 3 expressions of koinonia
i. Relationship – 1 Jn 1:3 (TPT) 3 So we proclaim to you what we have seen and heard about this Life-
Giver so that we may share and enjoy this life together. For truly our
fellowship is with the Father and with his Son, Jesus, the Anointed One.
TEACHER’S NOTES
Believers who share and enjoy a common experience
The spiritual foundation of koinonia
- 1 Jn 1:7 (TPT)
7 But if we keep living in the pure light that surrounds him, we
share unbroken fellowship with one another, and the blood of
Jesus, his Son, continually cleanses us from all sin.
ii. Partnership
A group pursuing business ventures
What is the Father’s business? – Phil 1:4-5 (CEB)
4 I’m thankful for all of you every time I pray, and it’s always a prayer
full of joy. 5 I’m glad because of the way you have been my partners in
the ministry of the gospel from the time you first believed it until now.
iii. Sharing
Acts 2:46 (TPT) – Life 46 Daily they met together in the temple courts and in one
another’s homes to celebrate communion. They shared meals
together with joyful hearts and tender humility.
Rom 12:13 (TPT) – Meeting needs 13 Take a constant interest in the needs of God’s beloved people
and respond by helping them. And eagerly welcome people as
guests into your home.
Rom 12:15 (TPT) – Joys and sorrows 15 Celebrate with those who celebrate, and weep with those who grieve.
1 Cor 14:26 (Voice) – Spiritual treasures
26 What should you do then, brothers and sisters? When you come
together, each person has a vital role because each has gifts. One
person might have a song, another a lesson to teach, still another
a revelation from God. One person might speak in an unknown
language, another will offer the interpretation, but all of this
should be done to strengthen the life and faith of the community.
