Franklin Field: The great dividing line between success and

failure can be expressed in five words: “I did not have time.”

We cry out: ‘I don’t have time!’

15 Look around whenyou walk! Live purposefully and worthily and carefully, not unwise and witless, but wisely

16 making the very most of the time, buying up each opportunity, because the days are evil.

Evil 4192= (full of labors, annoyances, hardships).

Vs. 16: Time is not a replaceable commodity.

Ephesians 5:15-16 (Amp)

Time Target: Spiritual?

Time Target: Things of Earth?

1 John 5:21Dear children, keep

yourselves from idols.

TK #1. Misguided Treasures Misguided: To be led or pointed in the

wrong direction Vs 15: Look around/be careful.

So, What are You targeting? Is it…?

TK # 1. Misguided Treasures

From Larry’s BCC Sermon on Time: Daily Time

7.9 Hours Sleeping 2.3 Hours of Television 2.4 Hours Online* 10 Minutes relaxing and thinking 7 minutes of religious practice

* USC Center for the Digital Future’s Study- June 2009

Where Does the Time Go?

More on the Typical Day 33% Sleeping 20% Watching Television & Being Online < 0.5% in Religious Activities…

It’s Simply cheating God…

Where Does the Time Go?

Malachi 3:8-11   8 “Should people cheat God? Yet

you have cheated me! “But you ask,‘What do you mean? When did we ever cheat you?’ “You have cheated me of the tithes and offerings due to me.

0.5% or 10% of our time? 2.4 hours a day? seem shocking?

Where Should the Time Go?

Can we buildtoward 10%

Spiritual Time?

One Foot in Each World The Holy Longing: By Ronald Rolheiser

Matthew 6:19-21 Store your treasures in heaven, where

moths and rust cannot destroy, and thieves do not break in and steal.

Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be.

You cannot waste (misuse) time without injuring eternity. - Henry David Thoreau

Guided Target: Treasuring Eternity

TK #2. Urgency over Importance

Daily Tasks = “I need to do this today.”◦Urgency sets Priorities, Schedules, …

Personal Spiritual Growth = “I can do that tomorrow.”◦Low priority and unscheduled…

Rolheiser continues: We are more busy than bad; more distracted

than non-spiritual… Pathological busyness and distraction are MAJOR blocks today within our Spiritual lives.

The Ministry of Intercession, Andrew Murray:

…‘What is heaviest (most valuable) must weigh heaviest,’— what is heaviest must have the first place in our day.

The law of God is unchangeable: just as on earth, so in our activity with heaven, we only get as we give.

If we are unwilling to pay the price for the sake of the heavenly gifts, and sacrifice time and attention for what appears as ‘legitimate’ or ‘necessary’ duties, we needn’t bother looking for a large experience of heavenly joy and power in our lives.

TK # 2. Importance over Urgency

Demands of Work Family Needs Church Needs Housework Homework “Relaxation”

In truth, people can generally make time for what they choose to do; it is not really the time but the will that is lacking.

- Sir John Lubbock

“Urgent” vs. Important

Relationships

Galatians 6:6-8 But those who sow via the Spirit will harvest everlasting life from the Spirit.

Look at Ephesians 5 again… Look around when you walk! Live

purposefully, not witless… not “Pathologically busy”

Jesus was No Less Busy than us◦Withdrew by himself…◦Matt. 14:13, Mark 3:7, Luke 5:16, Jn 6:15

Reverse it! Importance over Urgency

Is the ‘lack of time’ really the enemy?

Don’t say ‘I don’t have enough time.’ You have exactly the same number of hours per day that were given to Helen Keller, Michelangelo, Mother Teresa, and Albert Einstein.

- H. Jackson Brown

There is no such thing as a lack of time… Only a lack of prioritization.

TK # 3. Lack of Time Management

Ordinary people think merely of spending time. Great people think how to use it.

Proverbs 29:18 (NAS) Where there is no vision, the

people are unrestrained… unrestrained = chaotic life

Ephesians 5:15

Look around when you walk! Live purposefully and worthily and carefully…

TK # 3. Lack of Time Management

Psalm 90:12 Teach us to realize the brevity of life,

so that we may grow in wisdom.

Don’t let ‘Life’ witlessly dictate your priorities.
