Adult Educa on Classes 9:20‐10:20 am
NOVEMBER 25—Combined classes in the South Fellowship Hall will wrap up “The Story”. November 25—New Testament Themes and Patterns
New Bible Classes Beginning, December 2
RUTH—After racing through the Scriptures this last year as we read “The Story,” this class will slow down, taking a careful look at the book of Ruth. This is a wonderful story of commitment, both on the part of God and the young woman from a foreign nation who would eventually become the great-grandmother of King David. Pastor Heining will lead this discussion. Bible On Trial—This Lutheran Hour Ministry video series tackles the topic of is the Bible true, can we trust it, and how do we know. In this age of increasing skepticism come and find out why we can stand on the Word of God! This class will be led by Michael Harvey, DCE. Family Devotions “101” - Passing on the faith to our children is of utmost importance and they face an uncertain world. In this class we will discuss ways to start a family devotion and resources to use. You will find it is not as hard as you might think! Lonnie Strohschein will lead this class.
Let It Snow Winter is coming! Help is needed! We have a few members who could use some help having the snow cleared off their driveways and walkways. If this is something you would like to volunteer to help with, please contact the church office at 289-5147 for more information. Another great opportunity in which we are “Blessed to Serve!”

All the ladies of Redeemer are invited to participate in this ministry of caring and sharing with other sisters in Christ. A Secret Sister is someone that you will need to pray for and encourage and someone will be doing the same for you. It is wonderful to have someone who prays for you daily and is there to send you an encouraging note from time to time. Complete the pink sign-up form (located in the narthex by the big mite box). Bring it to the RLCW/LWML Christmas Social, November 29, and drop it in the Secret Sister basket. Not able to attend the Social? The basket will be on the counter by the Mite Box or drop it off in the church office. A drawing for your “sister” will be held at the Social. Not attending? We’ll be in contact with you so you too will have that Secret Sister. We’ll be keeping our “sisters” a secret; so don’t let anyone know who you have. Of course, it may be fun for you to guess who your secret sister is as we go along. At the end of 2013, we’ll reveal our “sisters” at the RLCW Christmas Social. Remember, ALL WOMEN OF REDEEMER are invited to participate!

6 Week of 11-25-2012
NOVEMBER IS NATIONAL CAREGIVER MONTH
A MUST-HAVE FAMILY CONVERSATION BEFORE YOU NEED IT
Shelly Beach, (blog, www.shellybeachonline,wordpress.com/2012/10/08), recently wrote about some excellent tips for knowing what to do when the time comes to be a family caregiver. She writes, “Unfortunately, many families don’t discuss caregiving options or make decisions until they’re faced with a crisis. Currently, one-third of the American population is caring for a loved one or family member. What steps can you take now to be better prepared?” How many of the following questions that Shelly asks have you already taken care of? Begin conversations early about your loved one’s (or your) desires. Do they hope to make a
move closer to family? Do they want to remain in their home? Do they hope to move to a retirement community? What plans would need to be set into motion to make those things happen?
Have they prepared a power of attorney? A power of attorney grants someone specific legal rights under specific conditions.
Have they prepared a durable power of attorney? This document goes into effect when the individual is incapacitated and unable to make decisions on their own behalf.
Have they prepared a will? Have they assigned an executor for their estate?
Have they prepared a medical directive, which clearly states their wishes regarding what life-saving and extreme measures they desire to be taken (e.g., respirators, feeding tubes, do not resuscitate orders, etc.)?
Have they assigned someone as a Designated Payee for Social Security? This is different from having Power of Attorney. The Social Security Administration cannot discuss a family member’s Social Security affairs with anyone who has not been assigned Designated Payee status. For more information, call your Social Security Office. You may be required to accompany the individual into a Social Security office to fill out the required forms.
Have they appointed someone to be in charge of their financial affairs?
Do family members know where their loved one’s insurance policies are and who to contact in the event of a crisis?
A more comprehensive list of recommended information for families to gather is located in the appendix of my (Shelly Beach’s) book Ambushed by Grace, available at rbc.org.
