Red Tape-ism ~ our topic for today

Red tape is a derisive term for excessive regulations or rigid conformity to formal rules that is considered redundant or bureaucratic and hinders or prevents action or decision-making.

It is usually applied to

governments, corporations and other large organizations.

What is meant by Red Tape-ism?

red tapen.The collection or sequence of forms and procedures required to gain bureaucratic approval for something, especially when oppressively complex and time-consuming. The American Heritage® Dictionary

History of originFirst noted in historical records in the 16th century, Henry VIII besieged Pope Clement VII with around eighty or so petitions for the annulment of his marriage to Catherine of Aragon.

The pile of documents can be viewed rolled and stacked in their original condition, each one sealed and bound with the obligatory red tape, as was the custom.

Laws to reduce Red Tape-ism

In Pakistan, Prime Minister of Pakistan, Chief Justice of Pakistan, Provincial Chief Ministers all have called for implementation of laws for reducing Red Tape-ism in their respective domains

In the United States, a number of committees have discussed and debated Red Tape Reduction Acts

… and till date any progress on the issue of reducing red tape-ism is pending in related circles, wrapped in big files with a red tape on it.
