The case for Tall wood BuildingsHow Mass Timber Offers a Safe, Economical,

andEnvironmentally Friendly Alternative for Tall Building Structures

FEBRUARY 22, 2012PREPARED BY:

mgb ARCHITECTURE + DESIGNEquilibrium Consulting

LMDG LtdBTY Group

In Brief

“The report describes a new structural system in wood thatrepresents the first significant challenge to concrete and steel

structures since their inception in tall building design more than acentury ago. The introduction of these ideas is driven by the

needto find safe, carbon-neutral and sustain-

able alternatives to theincumbent structural materials of the urban

world. The potentialmarket for these ideas is quite simply enormous. The proposedsolutions have the potential to revolutionize the building industry, address the major challenges of climate change, urbanization,

andsustainable development and to significantly contribute to world

housing needs.”

Christian Kerez, Zhengzhou Tower II, 2013
