To kick off the year for spin off, the office in charge of technology transfer at the Universidad de Zaragoza, Rebeca Hwang of YouNoodle used her experience as an entrepreneur to give advice to young technology companies as well as to discuss general market trends she sees in Silicon Valley.

  In the US, 1,274 students in the top 50 programs nationwide launched businesses while still in school.

  Sam Altman, Loopt founder, 19; Facebook's Mark Zuckerberg, 19; Firefox creator Blake Ross was 17.

  MIT’s $100K competition alone has generated 85 companies, market cap over $10BN, generating 2,500 jobs, $600M investment. http://mit100k.org   Academic entrepreneurs account for 8.6% of venture-backed companies founded between 1992-2001.

  In America startups have accounted for almost ALL of the NET JOB creation in the past two decades

The Israeli Case:

  1992 Israel founded a 100 M government fund

  Despite Israelʼs small population of 7 M,   it has attracted as much venture capital as France and Germany combined   it has more startups per head than any other country (3850 for every 1844 people)   it has more companies listed in NASDAQ than China and India combined
