Risk Benefit Solutions (RBS) originated from a small proprietorship in 1988 to become one
of the largest fully fledged financial services advisory firms in Southern Africa in little over
twenty years. The company covers a broad spectrum of services including Insurance
Broking, Risk Management, Corporate Risk Advisory, Employee Benefit Administration
and Consulting and Health and Wealth management.
Through a combination of targeted strategic acquisitions and a focus on driving organic
growth, RBS has grown its market position by understanding that its success can only
be achieved through the success of its clients.
As a result, RBS seeks to form strategic partnerships with all of its clients by tailoring its
specialised service offering to be fully aligned with their unique requirements.
Following a merger in 2011, with Katz Breskal Insurance Brokers, RBS has since re-
branded and is now known as RBS KATZ BRESKAL. Katz Breskal was founded in 1983
by Stanley Katz and David Breskal. The two entrepreneurs grew the business though
careful market selection and providing superior customer service. This year it celebrated
28 years of successful broking in the Western Cape. Through a mutual investment of
the Hollard Insurance company in both Katz Breskal and RBS, it was discovered that
formidable synergies existed between the two companies. The meger was finalised on
July 1st 2011.
While the profile of RBS KATZ BRESKAL has changed significantly over the years, its core
principles remain constant with a strong emphasis on service excellence and a desire
to build and maintain the strongest possible relationships with its clients by providing
innovative solutions to meet their needs.

RBS Employee Benefits specialises in providing benefit consultation for
both pension and provident retirement funds, with a particular emphasis
on Umbrella Funds. They have formed strategic partnerships with each
of the major suppliers which allows them to offer a comprehensive
collection of products and services. In addition to this, they provide
complimentary products to employee benefits such as medical aids,
gap cover, free-standing group life, disability funds and funeral benefits.
This division sits alongside and works in tandem with their risk and
retirement divisions.
In 2015, it is the government’s intention to implement sweeping changes
to the benefit and tax structure of pension and provident funds, as
contained in the Retirement Reform Paper. It is therefore imperative
that both commercial and corporate clients are made aware and
assisted in ensuring that their employee benefits are both innovative
and compliant. RBS Employee Benefits offers free consultation to not
only existing but also potential clients.

The Emperor and the InventorAn inventor carved a game of strategy that used wooden avatars, manoeuvred on a checker board.
It was presented as a gift to the emperor who in return offered to remunerate the inventor accordingly.Instead of money, the inventor requested that for every block on the board, the emperor give him a
grain of rice and that it should doubled at the advancement of each block. The emperor quickly agreed to this seemingly low price. Although little did he know that the kingdom itself did not own enough rice
to fulfil the inventor’s request.
RBS KATZ BRESKAL Wealth Management provides solutions for the

RBS KATZ BRESKAL has assembled an experienced team to manage the
Healthcare division, providing much needed expertise in the increasingly
expensive and complicated healthcare sector in South Africa.
Higher costs have meant many businesses are unable to offer staff health
cover benefits. At the same time, medical care is more complex than ever;
new legislation and product innovation means there are hundreds of medical
aid plans available, varying greatly in terms of accessibility, cost, structure,
cover and benefits.
By understanding the intricacies of the industry and by offering a wide range
of medical aid options, RBS KATZ BRESKAL is able to design and implement
a healthcare solution that looks after the client’s specific needs, whether as
an employer or as an individual.

governanceGood governance underpins all solid businesses by ensuring that core values are consistently applied. In essence, governance is a high level approach taken by executives regarding the direction of the business, enabling them to make accurate and timely decisions when necessary and ensuring the smooth roll-out of those managerial decisions.
risk managementRisk Management is a structured approach that equips a company to deal with the daily risks of managing a business. While some risks can be planned for, it is the unforeseen events that have the ability to change the course of a business by causing costly and time consuming disruption.
RBS KATZ BRESKAL’s strategic approach to risk management enables companies to deal with the unexpected in a calm manner so that any event causes minimal disruption to their business.
An effective risk management strategy is essential for all business types. Listed organisations are required not only to report all Material Business Risks (MBRs), but also the effectiveness of established policies to manage such risks. In addition, unlisted and private companies are also facing increased requirements due to industry wide changes with regards to risk disclosure and management, and need to address their risk positions with more rigour than ever before if they expect to compete effectively in the future.
complianceWith the ever-evolving legislative landscape in South Africa, compliance has become a key component for all businesses. Failing to comply with regulations, laws and policies that affect a business can result in heavy fines. Through its solid experience in the auditing of specific industries and compliance regulations, RBS KATZ BRESKAL enables organisations to navigate their way through the regulatory landscape in order to meet all necessary requirements.
